Does Nifskope keep old (no longer used) Strings in the "NiHeader"?

Recommended Posts

I changed the filepath for a BGSM I'd edited, so then had to edit the NIF to make sure it reflected the new path. I've checked and rechecked every record in Nifskope to make sure I haven't missed anything but, in the Strings list in the "NiHeader" at the very top of the Block Details, I still see 2 old filepaths for the BGSM - one is the vanilla filepath and the other is the filepath that I changed recently. I'm hoping that, for some reason, Nifskope retains all the old filepaths/strings and I don't have anything to worry about cuz, yeah, I've scoured the Nif records 5 times over and am sure I got everything.

If I am understanding you correctly, and you mean the "Strings" list under the header tab, then you're fine. That's the list of all strings that have ever been used in the .nif, in order of when they were first used, and the name of each block is actually assigned a numerical spot in the list (that's the number in brackets you see). If you want stronger confirmation, please post a picture of what you mean.

What matters as far as the game is concerned is what value is in the "Name" field for the shader property block.

Never seen a "NiHeader" block, and am unable to create one even using the newest version.

Thanks V, much appreciated. That puts my mind at ease. I thought that had to be the case, but I was still a bit nervous.

Here's a screenshot of what I meant.

I'd see the 2 old filepaths by expanding the strings section.
