Overclocking my computer

Hmm, the setting I said was something about CPU voltage is VTT_CPU Over Voltage which I don't get what it means. I tried setting it to 1.2 and 1.35 but it makes no difference, CPU-Z and all other programs capable of showing voltages show Core voltage of 1.824V while BIOS says it's 1.344V when set to 1.35 and 1.21 when set to 1.2. Other than VTT_CPU Over Voltage, there's nothing else indicating that it can change CPU's voltage. I don't get it.

Oh.

"CPU over voltage" should properly mean voltage over the normal, i.e. voltage added to the default. Are you sure you can't set less than 1.2V there? Like 0.2V, 0.3V, 0.4V?

Ok, now I get what CPU Over Voltage is. And no, only options are 1.2, 1.35 and Auto. No matter which one of those three I set, CPU-Z always says 1.824V.

 

But it got me thinking. I think, though I might be wrong, that the only other thing using 1.8V is RAM memory. Is it posible that CPU and RAM voltage values are somehow mixed up?

Here's the screenshot from CPU-Z, Core Voltage was 1.808 at the time I took the screenshot, it went to 1.824 after that.

Did you see that your proc running at 1.4 ghz instead of 2.2 (you are under-clocking actually)

 

can you upload a pic of your bios screen showing Vcore voltage and also of SpeedFan reading voltages of Vcore1 and Vcore2

 

There will be a problem(BIG) if you put load and your Vcore values not going down! (Vcore should drop in propotonal to CPU Load)

 

DO NOT OVERCLOCK YOUR MEMORY! tight the timings(if possible) or if new, keep it left auto or timing by SPD

The multiplyer is X6.0 if the CPU is chillin', it's X11.0 when it has some work to do. Then it jumps from 1.4 GHz to 2.57 GHz. SpeedFan says VCORE1: 1.82V, VCORE2: 1.26V. Now I don't get it at all, one has a normal value while the other has 1.8V.

speedfan is not always accurate when it comes to voltage. And all it does is read it from your motherboard so i would trust those values are correct. 1.8 v is a pretty standard voltage for ram so yes its probably reading those values. Your bios values are in almost every case more reliable then what speedfan reads. Your RAM will most likely be the bottleneck so best totry and keep it running at its default speed. So increase the FSB speed to 233/ 266 and while u do that manually set back the ram speed at itsdefault rate.u can choose values in between 200-266 also ofcourse. Watch the cpu temperature, if its getting above the 50 degrees in the bios already its probably going to be too hot under full load. I wouldnt touch any voltage settings since your not experienced with overclocking and messing with the voltages are more likely to cause damage then upping the FSB speed. I would also suggest that if u can u turn off intel speedstepping / virtualisation. 4gb would be a huge improvement alone. And as far as the cpu watch that it dont gets too hot. I would say underheavy load dont let it go over 65 degrees and try to keep the ram as near as possible at its default speed. Overclocking the ram is more likely to cause a systemfailure then the cpu and performance you gain is barely noticable. If the system isnt booting at allbecause of wrong settings just reset the bios by either taking the battery out or by temporarily movethe bios reset jumper and try it again with lower settings.
