I haven't noticed any other geological references in place names (I did geography at Uni). There is a similarity in that the mine is surrounded by hills that could be the rim of a collapsed crater although it is rather on the small side. There are some good photos on the web of various Calderas around the world. The same may be true of the Dwemer site of Mzuleft. There is a lot of volcanic activity on Vvardenfell.

From what I remember of geo class is that a caldera is a small mound in the center of a volcanic crater where lava built up before it cooled. So visually speaking you have the volcanic crater and a small mountain in the middle of the crater, that mountain is what a caldera is.

As for you observation, good call, I never made that connection but it seems appropriate enough seeing as caldera (from the impression that I get in the game) is that the settlement was built there as a trade and distribution center for the ebony that is mined.
