hey guys,

i have 70 mods running using mod manager, and my game keeps crashing whenever i load save file or start a new game. i have tried using boss' better oblivion software, and it says it did something but i have no idea what it does. i am using a windows xp, and I'm running sky rim off my hard drive. is there anyway to increase the number of mods you can have running at once?

thanks and cheers

To be honest, anything over 20- 30 mods is just asking for trouble. That's why the forums are full of 'my game won't start' and 'game crashes',...etc.

The more you add, the higher the percentage rises that something isn't going to play nice and cause you all sorts of problems, sometimes resulting in a full re-install (occasionally, that doesn't even work).

Some people do manage to get 100 or so mods working nicely, others don't. It's just your luck if the mods you want, are compatible with each other.

Technically it's possible to run 256 esp./.esm files. So, beside the Skyrim.esm and Update.esm, you can have another 254 mod files.

I guess your problem is related to conflicting mods or a bad mod that makes your game crash. BOSS is a good program to set up your load order and avoid mod conflicts, but it's not perfect.

You can try the following: disable half of your mods and see if your game still crashes. If not, disable the other half and if it crashes you will know, the problematic mod is in the second half of your mod list. Repeat the procedure with the last 35 mods and so on, to narrow down the bad or conflicting mod(s).
