Other Soft Drinks

Now before i get started yes i know about copy right ok. So Nuka-Cola was invented in 2044 and was made to be a alternative to Coca-Cola and Pepsi. But that brings up a whole load of questions. Why isnt there some form of Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Dr.Pepper which all were made in the 1800s era. Now im not saying they would have the same name do to copy right. But you would think there would be some mention of it. Now it could be they never caught on in this world. Perhaps Dr.Pepper remained a drink manly in texas and other southern regions. Now theres also fast food, which one of the first was made in 1919. So did it also die out as there arent any real fast food stlye restruants in Fallout.

Is this a REAL question? Seems way too naive. Let me give the industry answer.

Media goes one of two ways. REAL world and MIRROR world. Real world has real products (where poss) which makes things very easy for the creators. Mirror world (TV, books, films, etc- not to be mistaken for 'mirror universe') invents new names and products that each replace those in the actual world- but serve the same purpose.

Marvel is REAL world. DC is MIRROR world. Look at the city names in both comic worlds. Is there a 'conceptual' difference? NO! But you may argue to the ill informed, the mirror world, with new names for many things, seems to be making a point of doing this.

However, TODAY, after the efforts of a lot of vile ambulance chasing lawyers, it is hard for devs in many nations to use the name and form of real world products. Take even guns in games. Or even cars in non-race games. Neither have established legal precedent, but thanks to the vile lawyers, major devs will choose to make generic 'clones' or perhaps 'license' the products.

A game like Fallout makes a merit of re-imagining the world, keeping only the oldie music (some licensed, some out-of-copyright). Fallout is partially an alternate future, and partially familiar iconography from the Jazz Age.

And if you ask "where's my Dr Pepper?" well I really hope you are being ironic or sarcastic.

How is it Naive. Im simply pondering a question that hasn't been answered. Fallout takes place in a alternate time line. Not a mirror or real world no idea why those were brought up. The divergence which changes everything happens some time after ww2, locking the US culturally and technology in a retro 50 and 60s era. Now there is one confirmed alteration to the timeline where someone from salem is taken by aliens. What im asking is what happened to these drinks in the fallout world. I understand copry right and how Nuka-Cola is suppose to be there worlds pepsi and coca cola but its strange neither of them are ever mentions even with say a changed name. Especialy given Coca Cola having ww2 pro us adds made. Now Vim, which is akin to are worlds Moxie Drink, is around so that's strange there aren't other. Now Sunset Sarsaparilla could be there worlds A and W given similar regions but doubt full. I only gave Dr.Pepper as a example as to how perhaps we haven't seen it is that it was a regional drink in the south or just texas. Theres also Fast Food which was in its early form during ww2 so you would think there would be a fallout worlds mcdonalds maybe Nuka-Donalds, idk first thing I thought of. Just a question manly. Perhaps there was a early divergence where are worlds drinks died out and didn't become popular who knows.

Real reason: it would have been too much work to add more types of soft drinks.

But, go ahead and mod them in. Might be an interesting mod. Especially if you invent new brands, instead of just putting in real-world drinks.

How would it have been more work. Add in a new bottle type, new name, maybe a unique flavor and done. The hard part would have been the name, lore, and vending machines. Sadly i have no modding experience. If i wanted this a mod i would have put this in the mod suggestion page. Im just stating a question here and pondering something.

You already answered your own question. The modelling and texturing probably wouldn't take that long but lore/trademark items (logo, bottle shape and etc),

terminal entries and etc is what would require allot of work. .

IMO modeling and texturing and the design of logos, bottles, etc can't really be separated. And yes, this design process would be the hardest part.

Terminal entries? What do you mean by these?

If you are going to actually a mod like that, I'd suggest starting with just putting the new items into some loot lists. Then you can consider adding more lore integration later.

For vending machines I'd suggest, make just one, which sells/sold various drinks:

http://www.intelligentvending.co.uk/image/1/146/g-drink-9-vending-machine-black.jpg

This is a rather simple design, and you can use the actual bottle meshes as the decoration. Maybe even try to do it similar to how bobblehead stands work, so that it displays it's actual content like this.

If it's a small drink brand, it probably won't have the money to build their own vending machines anyway.

For actual drinks, no idea though. "Rad-Bull"? :D Would give you caffeinated and AP regeneration

Definitely water, though. Vending machines over here usually have water in addition to softdrinks. Here, you could take the normal "purified water" mesh and retexture it with some mountains, and maybe the name of a mountain, or a word for "water" from another language.

Some thing like mountain dew/powerade? "Power Dew"? :D could give you increased AP regeneration

Also, somewhat fitting to Fallout, there actually used to be a radioactive drink IRL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radithor

What im planning on doing is trying to replace Coca-Cola with something which is hard do to Nuka-Cola but what i have imagined is that in say a new bottleing plant for the drink is this drink idk what ill call it right now fell into hard times after ww2 and shorta died out. Nuka-Cola was then invetned to replace the gap this drink filled. With the rise of soft drinks agian, this version of coca-cola made a small comeback in certian areas. best i got so far im just trying to make a new label to replace one on another bottle already existing. In escense this worlds Coca-Cola sorta died after ww2 then made a comaback with the rise of Nuka-Cola. I really havent gone to far into this as right now im trying to figuring how to do this. Now that you mention water im actually suprised there werent any being sold or at least we know of in vending mentions. Perhaps ill work it in that this company parterned with one that sells water. Welp back to figuring this out.
