Just like the title says .. I re-textured the dwarven armor but I cant make the NPC wear it, I add it to the inventory & it shows in the Preview window but when I place him somewhere he shows up naked.

any help or even a link to point me in the right direction would be great, thanks in advance.

NPCs wear outfits rather than loose items in inventory. So if your NPC has no outfit assigned, then you will likely see him be naked. If your NPC is a follower, you can probably get him to equip his dwarven armor by talking to him and looking at his inventory, even if you make no exchanges. But this is not a permanent solution, because you may see him naked again after fast travel or various other situations.

To permanently fix this, your NPC needs an outfit. You can make a custom outfit using your new armor if you desire.

If your NPC is a follower, beware of armor ratings. Followers wear the apparel with the best armor rating whether it be their outfit items, or loose items after you talk to them. If you give them an item with a lower armor rating than their corresponding outfit item, they will not wear it. A prime example is clothing. Give a companion a suit of fancy clothing fit for a jarl, and he or she will refuse to wear it because it has an armor rating worse that their cheap iron armor or whatever they have.

You can get around that limitation that David was talking about by duplicating the armor entry and simply lowering the armor rating to something generic like the chef outfit set (0 armor) and check them as unplayable so they cannot be pickpocketed off. then put those armor parts in the new outfit and the normal ones with good stats in inventory. This way the outfit version stats dont affect the players version that can be pickpocketed and you can give them better armor to use when following or they will use the inventory if thats the set you want them to use.
