TheAlmightyOS
Alright guys. I have another idea. If you want to skip the background (because I am told I tend to ramble. I can't help it) and get right to the point, scroll down to this symbol >>>You guys might have seen me around both pitching ideas for mods and asking questions about how to do one thing or another. A few of you might have received requests from me for permission to use assets from your mods. I have the itch. I want to create. Most of the "mods" or patches I have made thus far require permissions from the original creators to post and... well, that is harder than making the patches themselves. I don't think they will object, but actually getting in contact with them is proving difficult. Trying to explain what I want to do is equally difficult. People tend not to understand me. Maybe because I ramble? Anyway, I digress...Taking a break from that, I decided to contact jenncave about requesting a patch for her excellent "Sanctuary Lite" so that it would work with "Sanctuary Water Overhaul" from fluffycub69. jenncave suggested that I try it myself, saying such a fix would not be very difficult. I admit, I am a tad overwhelmed by the CK. Most of the changes I made were in xEdit or editing dds files. But, taking her vote of confidence, I loaded up a few youtube CK tuts and learned how to navigate in the render window with the god-awful controls. I managed to fix the issue and also remove the wooden bridge for a concrete one. But then I got to thinking... >>> Instead of repairing the holes and tears, what if I "created" a hole or "cave" and then set that cave up so that I can FINALLY use the Vault-Tech kit underground somewhere OTHER than the caves at Vault 88? It would essentially just be a hole in the ground to start, but I might add a vault door and a single room where you can start building from. But first, I need to figure out how to make that hole. Any suggestions on how to get started on something like this?
werr92
Unfortunately, you can't "dig" a hole in the ground as you intend. There's no such tool for that in CK. All Bethesda's so-called tunnels are nothing else but the solid meshes (take the gates in Ravenrock, Skyrim for example). You could either model a new mesh or you can try to be creative with the editor and build a tunnel from several statics, place it in a landscape pit and then cover it with something from above to prevent sun going through the transparent backside of the model. A nice addition to it, imho, would be an ImageSpaceModifier in the area of that underground way to reduce the amount of sunlight artificially. pra
You could also make it so that the vault door you mentioned teleports you into a cave underground. Of course, then you would get a loading screen each time you enter or exit the cave. But if you actually build it below the ground and not in a separate cell, then you could make the aboveground workshop still work down there at least. You will probably have a problem if there is water underground, though.
kaddigart
There are a few cave entrances in the static tree in CK, I've used them for similar projects myself. As for blocking out the sunlight, covering the area above with rocks works pretty good. I like to build the interior with concrete or cave assets then make a mound of rock over the top. Filter your object windows (I usually have 2-3 open) using the keywords "cave", "bldconc" and "rock".
Kurohux
I've experimented a little bit with this in the past but I didn't get very far. You CAN turn off quadrants of a cell if you go through its editor... BUT: A) It's a large chunk of ground that you will then need to use solid meshes to patch in & fill the gaps, since a quarter of your cell just won't have any ground any more, & it's just a square (and or rectangular depending on if you do two) chunk of landscape missing. B) A lot of standard cells have water &/or LOD layers under the surface you'd also need to edit. C) Messing with the LOD seems like a real pain in the ass tbh & seems to often lead to problems. But take that with a grain of salt as I'm still quite new & haven't done much in terms of mods outside of adding things for the build menu.
