You could adjust the confidence and aggression of the healer in the CK so that he or she would always run away when fighting breaks out. That would take like five minutes of work. Now if you wanted the healer to stick around during the battle and automatically heal you, I don't know if the experts have developed a mod like that yet. (Skyrim is not well-suited to that type of actor AI.)

If you create it outside the normal follower system and have it just follow the player after the follow me dialogue, and dismissible which would shut the follow package off then it shouldn't affect the follower system. the healing could be on all the time which could be surprising if you are injured near the NPC and its not following you, then bam heal spell on you.

to get them to follow like a normal follower without the normal follower dialogue or affecting the normal system at all you only need playerfollowerpackage AI pack and playerfollowerfaction. Once they have those they will follow you at all times. So a script that changes them to that package and faction when asking them to follow and removes when dismissed will not affect normal followers.

As for non combat you can make a faction that is friends with all factions for the NPC and set them for helps nobody and coward. they wont enter combat then and wont attack if hit. all thats left is a script that has him/her heal the player when the player is injured and near it.

the bard summon i created can be made solely for healing the player if i left the spell as his only ability.

What did you give them for other spells? a lullaby to put enemies to sleep? weapons are drumsticks for dual wield, a flute instead of a dagger, and the lute instead of a hammer?

OK sorry I had to ask that and was completely off topic. :psyduck:
