TitanHQ
For reference I am using, or have the following installed:Latest Skyrim version,NPC Editor beta,SKSE,NMM. What I am looking to do is the same thing that every Skyrim player wants, a husband/wife who's inventory/outfits I can swap at will without using console commands. I ALSO wish that said NPC doesn't appear naked whenever I leave them to their own devices. My wife of choice is Jenassa. So, I came up with the following solution:Using NPC editor I removed Jenassa's default clothing, making her naked by default. Then I added a set of clothing to her inventory (wenches clothes) The idea being when I want her to follow me I will give her a set of armor, but when she is left at home she will only respawn the clothes. PLUS the added advantage is that I can remove her clothes completely for RP purposes without the use of console commands. As stated in the above brief. In-game however she refuses to wear clothes in her inventory and in some cases she has armor equipped but it doesn't show up, leaving her walking around naked. Despite the implied advantages, having a naked elf running around proves quite detracting and the poor dovakiin has walked into more than one tree since. XD My questions are where am I going wrong? Is the game programmed in such a way that what I want is not possible? More importantly are there scripts/mods that can fix this?
Perraine
The game doesn't differentiate between 'nude' or clothed/armored when selecting outfits, it treats the 'nude' mesh as just another piece of clothing ... To get your NPC to wear (almost) anything you MUST specify a 'default' outfit, just make it the weakest one in the game armor stat wise (say, prisoner rags or farmclothes) that way she'll default to that clothing when not following you, but will instantly equip almost anything you give her, because it will be better than her current (default) outfit. NPC's will only use items that YOU put in their inventory in game. any items you add manually with the CK or NPC Editor will most likely be ignored, and It seems to be hard coded as to what they will actually use, such as a dagger/sword/ maybe some health potions, sometimes a 'key' to a house and that's about it. Also certain NPC's have a hidden script or hidden version (Aela being a classic example) where they will default to a completely different outfit after a certain in game event regardless of what you put in the mod file. You can download something like the BDO mod which adds several extra NPC dialogues, one of which is "I'd like you to wear something"
