Custom Retextured Armor Question

So I've redone textures for an armor set, and then added a custom armor set into the Creation Kit. What do I need to do to make it so only that armor uses the texture and not the rest of the set? Do I need to duplicate meshes that have that set for it to work? There's probably a tutorial for this, but I'm not sure what to search for exactly.

The simple straightforward old-school way is to have a new mesh and attach your new textures to it in NifSkope. It sounds as if there is a sophisticated new-fangled way to do things like this in Skyrim, but the old way is still nice.

Here is a tutorial on the wiki: Retexture Tutorial.

That's just what I needed. Thanks a lot man. I was originally thinking that the textures were linked to the meshes via the creation kit, and not to the models themselves. But after looking in the CK that didn't seem correct. Thanks again for the info.

I tried this in Nifskope, but it told me "link points to wrong block type" when I saved the mesh, and parts of it were invisible when I used it in the CK. Do you happen to know what could be causing that?
