garbitos
Hello friends, I won't be too long winded just want to introduce myself and get a feel for this place. I am an old school modder, turning 40 soon. My specialty has typically been with LUA scripting, focused primarily on gameplay and multiplayer with some dedicated server tweaking. My first mod ever was actually way back in Rogue Spear: Urban Operations, since then I have dabbled in a few games but mostly got stuck pretty hard in Far Cry 1 back around ~2006 with such an powerful, complex, unfinished engine full of potential... it was my passion for a while to patch the game, create better multiplayer experiences...eventually leading into gameplay extensions and contributing to full mods. If you played FC multiplayer in the later days you might remember XASSM and/or eXtremeArena (also the speed boats stuck out to many people). Here is a funny video from those times: Other projects I have contributed to are: FC Classic - https://www.moddb.com/games/far-cry/addons/fc-classic Contest Island: http://crymods.net/download.php?view.464 (The above projects contributed code base to many other mods/patches such as FCAM, LRv2 but I never bothered too much with credit, something I regret a bit.) So the reason i came here is that the FC1 (Far Cry 1, CryEngine 1) community is really on its last leg, the few modders left seem to be down a deep rabbit hole managing closed off projects. Everyone speaks a different language natively and just not much progress being made to actually restore the game a bit. There is a lot of good code and work out there that could be put to use to bring this game up to more modern standards even return multiplayer to the game (without UBI servers obviously, dropped in 2015). So i LOVE the fact that you have an old Far Cry section (even if it's just a backup) and this great community of active modders. Is Nexus looking for a Moderator of the old Far Cry 1 section? Can I be of use? Anyone have even the slightest interest in this old game? Perhaps even a beta tester or two? Thanks for reading. Cheers.
