Changing Colour of Armour

Hey Guys!

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to the more experienced modding and or changes people can make with the Creation Kit and i'm still learning basic stuff through tutorials etc anyways recently when i was going through some new armors that i hadn't used before i found the Psijic Armor set and thought wow that's cool as, but then i thought how much cooler would that be if had a different colour scheme, like a black instead of the off white/pale yellow and a dark grey instead of the white trim.

Is there anyway to do this either in game, using the creation kit or does anyone know of a mod that allows me to change it somehow?

Thanks :D

A useful explanation:

1. Get a tool that can extract .bsa files (I used the fallout3 mod manager- FOMM)

2. Extract Skyrim - Textures.bsa (or just the images you'll be editing- that's faster but if you do them all at once you'll have them just in case)

------somewhere outside of skyrim\data folder, like your desktop.

3. Kinda tricky part, get an image editing program that can edit .DDS images - or - use the nvidia dds plugin for photoshop

4. Using Photoshop as example, browse to the texture you want, open, make sure 'load mip maps' is checked.

5. Edit as you wish.

6. 'Save as' somewhere else and make sure 'use existing mipmaps' is checked.

7. Set up the file structure for where the image goes, inside skyrim\data\textures

---example data\textures\armor\glass\m\ for the male glass 'curiass.dds'

---and put the image there

8. Start Skyrim and Go! :D

If it's messed up, just delete that image file you saved, and start over

Awesome thanks, seems simple enough i'll give it a go and if i'm happy with the armor changes i'll upload the files if anyone else wants them :D

Oh, and you'll see there are about 3 image files for each, like

boots.dds

boots_n.dds

boots_m.dds

Boots.dds is the color image, you'll mostly be editing this.

boots_n.dds is the 'normal map' image, the bump/texture map, if you change textures (cloth to fur for example) you'll want to create a normalmap for the fur, so it looks like actual fur, instead of cloth stamped with a fur pattern. Dark areas will look pressed in. There are programs to create these for you from your color image, as well as plugins for photoshop.

boots_m.dds is the 'environment map' image, handles how light reflects. White area = shiny, mainly metals. Black area = no light reflection, mainly woods/cloths. If using photoshop, you can try to use Threshold to make one

Edit: A few others like _g are glow map such as the eyes of the Dwarven spiders, some use a randomish letter like _s or _e for other types, like light dogs are .dds and dark dogs are _s.dds, the _d are diffuse maps~ same as the regular .dds image.

Yeeah, happy image editing :D

Ok so i've been fiddling all day and i haven't made the slightest of progress, any chance you guys could give me a hand and change the colours for me and give me the files?

i was just after changing the psijic armor colour scheme to this

Main Color: Pale Yellow to Black

White Trim to Dark Grey

Red Trim just darkened or made look more like blood.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

I was doing so well until i took an arrow to the knee!

Holy crap. What a coincidence. I'm currently adding 5 differne colors to a set of armor and I name each color to ColorScheme.png . LOOOOL If you need any further help, do add me on skype(in my sig), I've done several retexture mods before.
