Crashing..?

Hello there!

After a long time away from Oblivion, I've come back, and with the help of a friend, downloaded some truly excellent mods for playing!

Sadly, when I loaded up after installing these mods, when I pressed escape to skip the clips, it crashed. I tried again, and it did the same. When I let it run through the clips, it crashed half way through, so I took out all the mods I downloaded, and it worked. I put them back in, one by one, and discovered it was the Elder Council mod that cause the problem.

So, my question.. Does it have any particular requirements? OBSE, or SI for example? Or is it something else?

Please help, I desperately wanted to play that mod!

Thank you so much!

I don't think that you need OBSE to run The Elder Council mod, although it's good to have it (OBSE) for other mods that require it.

Check this thread: http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showto...65325&st=10 ... .

You may probably find your answer there. Hope this help.

OBSE is worth having like Gaugain said. A lot of good mods require it and it isn't a large download even with my lousy dialup, so no problems there.

Welcome back to Oblivion btw.

Another help for you would be to download the Oblivion Mod Manager. This is an extremely useful tool for organizing mods, plus backing up your files, plus checking for potential problems.

Another very good download to get is the Unofficial Oblivion patch. It's a bit larger, but fixes a ton of problems.

I'm running all 7 of Giskard's mods (collectively called "Cyrodiil Upgrade"). None of them require OBSE.

Load-order is critical for quest-mods of this complexity, however. I have found that Random's "FCOM Helper" does a fine job of load-ordering, as it takes into account what mods change within the game.

But OBMM is also needed as a follow-up, as OBMM modifies a hidden file (Plugins.txt) that shows the load-order.

But it definetely requires Shivering Isles? That's a shame...

Yes it does, most of Giskard requires it, sorry. Always read the Read Me files for mods before installing them. It just takes a few minutes but saves a lot of trouble. They often countains information crucial for the mod to work. For example requirements, special installation instructions and information about compatibility with other mods.

Good comment, FearlessHamster. I agree. There are a lot of mods I would have liked to add to my game, but after digging through the Mod Descriptions & Readme files, I have found incompatibilities.

Like you said, reading them first helped me to avoid a lot of problems.

I ussually read them first, but I read almost all of the information on the download page (except I swear I'm going blind, which is how I missed the stuff at the top) and it looked just a copy of that so I didn't bother.

Ah, I guess I'll have to get SI then. When I found some money...
