Stemin Posted June 3, 2012 Share Posted June 3, 2012 I know there's a lot of people out there who barely know where Morthal is think its kinda pointless, but I've always liked the area. I think the swamp is really well done, and it was also amazing to me on my first playthrough (on ps3) that a dragon would strike everytime I went there until the town was almost a ghost town. But there's a little quest there called Laid to Rest where you investigate a burned down house and find out the whole plot centers behind the ancient vampire in the book Immortal Blood, and the catalyst is the town's woman Alva who happens to be a vampire herself. I've done this quest 3 or 4 times now and it has some little quirky variations. But this last time I did it, I went through the cave and stealth killed everything without prejudice. When I got to the area where on my previous playthroughs I would always find Alva's body, this time I found her sleeping on a sleeping bag. When I woke her she just gave me standard dialogue like 'huh?' 'what can I do for you?' things like that. So naturally I killed her (because she's a vampire) and the game gave me a bounty of 40. The bounty was immediately cleared as she was the only witness. I reloaded the area, wondering if instead of finding her corpse, or finding her sleeping if there was some dialogue that would normally take place with the other vampires. But this time when I went through I found her fighting another vampire and she lost. I'm kinda curious what happens if you leave her alive. Does she move back in her house? Does she stay in Morvarth's Cave? And if so, what happens when it repopulates? But I really don't want to do the area a third time today to find out. kevkiev Posted June 3, 2012 Share Posted June 3, 2012 On my first playthrough I found her sleeping on a bedroll in the cave just like you (I think it was after my char killed everyone else). I was kinda puzzled, but didn't have the heart to kill her since she wasn't hostile. She just ended up back in Morthal going through her daily life... none of the other NPCs seemed to care. Usually when I go to her house to get the proof I need to accuse her, she's sleeping in the half-coffin in the basement and wakes up to pick a fight. So I guess my answer is no, I don't leave her alive, but she's never actually given me much choice in the matter. I wonder what triggers her to be in the cave? You have to enter her house at night when you know she's not in it. When you retrieve the journal and exit the house, if you go to the edge of the town you can see her flee to Morvarth's. I have no idea what happens if you attack her at this point. I presume you get a bounty. At this point you would take the journal to the jarl and you know the rest. When you get to the cave you will find that the vampire's are hostile towards her. Whether this is just random or there is an actual scripted event I have no idea. Everytime I arrived in there prior to the incidents I posted tonight she was already dead. Supposedly it's possible to enter at a certain time and both her and the husband will be out of the house and you don't have to kill either. I have yet to figure out what hour this is. I read somewhere that it was 10, but I tried 10 at night and 10 in the morning and both times the husband was in. This last time I was able to sneak around him without alerting him. Can someone summarize why the guy burned down his house, killed his entire family, then ran off with a vampire? What exactly is a "vampire's thrall" (yes I googled)?
