antstubell
Hi all.I have some meshes and textures from Oblivion that I would like to use in Skyrim. How can I make CK see them in the Object Window? At the moment they are in their relevant folders for a plugin data/meshes/creatures/blah, blah .nif and data/textures/creatures/ blah, blah .dds but the Skyrim.esm can't see them and I can't make the plugin without access to them.Help please. FalloutBeast
You can not use them. Using parts of other games in skyrim is considered violating copy right laws and is illegal.
antstubell
You can not use them. Using parts of other games in skyrim is considered violating copy right laws and is illegal. But both games are made by Bethesda and will be used in a Bethesda game. There are many mods out there that take textures from other Bethesda games and put them in Skyrim. E.g. Warhammer 40,000 (whatever its called) armour is used as a mod in Skyrim.
flobalob
It is generally considered legal to create a new mesh from scratch (even if it looks very similar), but exporting a mesh from any game whether Bethesda created or not and importing it into Skyrim (or any other game) is copyright theft unless you have written permision from the owner. Which in this case would be Bethesda Softworks LLC. Edit: I'm not a lawyer, so don't quote me on this in court :D Edited June 4, 2012 by flobalob
tg08096
One of my first mods, before I know better, and this was recently, I had the idea of importing the meshes and textures from oblivion for what I wanted to do. I cant find the link that explains it, but the nexus, oblivion, and skyrim user agreements all strictly forbid porting from previous titles. It's because some of the assets used in previous games are not actually "owned" by bethesda, they are licensed, and they are only licensed for the respective title. The morroblivion project got shut down because they were porting, and any file that gets uploaded to the nexus with ported content will be removed and the user will be banned. Im paraphrasing. There are some files on the nexus with questionable content that fly under the radar, and there are files with legally ported content, like witcher stuff whose terms of use allow porting. I would try looking through some of the modders' resource files on the nexus; some of them might have what you need. Otherwise you might just have to learn a new program or two. Good luck. antstubell
Fair enough, I've no intentions of doing anything illegal but a lot of content that could be recycled/editted/improved is going to waste.
