Help, everything's purple! I just tried to optimise my textures and it didn't work.

EDIT: Oops, sorry, wrong forum :/ This should have been in troubleshooting (sorry).

I followed the instructions in the video below.

Now everything's purple.

In the notes it says to only use the command interface but I can't access it by shift + right clicking in a folder. All I have is Powershell, which is reported not to work.

I'm not sure if that's the problem but everything in my game is now a shade of pink/purple.

What's the easiest solution for this?

Please help. This took me forever and it's failed.

well , pink items like this means missing textures

so whatever you did , now your game doesn't recognize the textures

luckily you should still have the packed BA2 archives , so you can delete whatever you tried and try again

I've never seen that video , nor have I tried this myself

but if you would explain which parts of this video you've managed to follow properly , and where your attempt starts to differ from the video , that would help us figure out the issue and how to fix it

Thanks. I'd backup up my entire re-installation before starting to apply any mods so I copied the files over from there and it's all back the way it was.

Re. the process:

I downloaded the creation kit but I didn't set it up. I thought it might not be necessary because all that was needed was a tool from it.

Part of the instruction was to shift + right click in the folder to open command prompt in that location, but when I do that I get Powershell. It says in the notes for that video that powershell has been reported as not working and that command prompt should be used. But, it did seem to work, I was able to follow the instructions and it all seemed to work perfectly.

I did try to use command prompt but with not much success.

Something else I changed was the directories I used (although I'm not sure that would make a difference?) I made a "Texture Backups" folder in the game folder and I copied texture files from the game folder to that "Texture Backups" folder. In that backup folder I created a folder titled "Working" as per the instruction in the video, and created two folders within that "working" folder, labelled "1" & "2", also as per those instructions.

I created a short cut to Archive2.exe on the desktop as per the instructions but then dragged and dropped that shortcut to the "Texture Backups" folder so that everything was in one place, to make it a bit simpler.

Once I'd finished them all I copied and pasted them into the game folder to replace the existing files.

Basically it looked like this part way through (the "Done" folder is where I moved the files when they were completed)...

EDIT: I think I'm going to give it another try with maybe just one of the texture files and see if I can figure out what went wrong, although I'm not sure if using optimised textures is going to be enough to stop my GPU maxing out. I started another thread showing how my GPU just doesn't seem to be fast enough. I was hoping this might reduce the processes enough to get me back up to 60fps but I think that might be wishful thinking.

as long as you kept the texture BA2 archives in their original location , and just copied them to this folder , you should still have the original textures for the game to use

the game clearly doesn't use them , as your textures are missing in the game . so something in the optimization process isn't done properly

I looked at the comments , and I do see a lot of mentions for similar cases , and it seems like it is connected with PowerShell

a user has mentioned googling how to change the default to the CMD , so maybe if you find a way to do this and just repeat the process as described in the video it would work properly?

Thanks, I was kind of thinking of that as a last resort; I've tried reversing other changes in Windows 10 and just had no luck with it whatsoever.

I'll take a look at it, and also I'll see if I can figure out how to use the command prompt without having to spawn it in that actual folder location. I guess a work around would be to transfer all of the files to where command prompt is opening by default, although I'm not sure if that's going to work? I'll have to look at it.

Thanks, I'm going to go and give it a try now.

Still no luck. Followed the instructions in the video, and spawned command prompt in that directory, but, everything is still purple. :/

I don't understand it, it looks like it's working.

EDIT: Okay, well, I used the BAT file installer and it worked, so I've now got optimised textures and it has given me more overhead, but not enough to run NAC Enhancer comfortably with my GTX 970, which is also a factory overclocked model (I've not been able to increase the overclock on it without the FPS actually dropping).

I'm going to try Subtle at least, and Decent ENB as it's supposed to be optimised for performance and not so resource intensive but in any event I'm probably going to stick with NAC at least , just without NAC Enhancer as an ENB. :/

EDIT: Okay, so I screwed up. I was running NAC Enhancer on top of the NAC stand alone presets. That sent my frame rate through the roof.

It only occurred to me when I installed another ENB that it might have been necessary for me to not choose the NAC stand alone settings.
Now with reduced textures, NAC set to non-stand alone settings and NAC Enhancer activated, this is how my graphics card performance graph is reading (it's a GTX 970 but, it's a factory overclocked GTX 970, so, your milage may vary)...

Not sure how much of a difference the optimised textures made to the processor load but I'm going to swap those files back in to see what kind of difference it makes. I'm tempted to add CBBE, if the extra polygons don't max out my processor.
Edit: Seems the optimised textures do make all the difference. Without them I'm back to 100% on the processor and a stuttering 48fps. A definite endorsement for the Fallout 4 - Texture Optimization Project and Bat File Installer for Fallout 4 - Texture Optimization Project. Also, NAC with NAC Enhancer looks fantastic.

My GPU Graphs with Vanilla (non-optimised) textures and NAC with NAC Enhancer enabled (NAC Stand Alone configuration not enabled)...
