Hello all. I recently came up with two ideas - reworking Shivering Isles for Skyrim and something that I call "Modern Skyrim". As probably many of you are familiar with what SI is, I will proceed to explain what MS is (or will be).

So - MS will be Skyrim but based in the 21st century. I know, this is a crazy idea but hell, I am a crazy person. Basically, it would be an RPG in a big city where you will be able to buy your own house, be a mass murderer, politician, thief, cook or whatever the heck you'll want to be. To say it quick, it will be much, much more brutal and realistic Sims or GTA (now, don't hang me yet for that comparison). I think that's enough for a brief explanation.

As up to this moment, I actually managed to create one house with all the basic things a normal house today would have.

Now, to the SI. Simply put, I love Sheogorath and the madness he represents. As many of you I would want to see more of him in Skyrim and that's where the idea came from. It would contain all the quest and all the original content (to some extent at the beginning of course) Oblivion SI had.

Now here are some answers for the questions you may ask:

Q: Do you realise how much scripting/mapping/modelling it would take to make any of those two mods?

A: Actually, yes I do. Guns, cars, new interactions, new characters, new textures, new maps, new items and much, much more.in MS, and all the things in SI - must be rewritten or made from the beginning to work. But well, I have loads of time at the moment.

Q: I have never seen any of your mods. What makes you think you can manage something like that?

A: Indeed, you have never seen anything from me. But that's only because a) i didn't release anything because I was creating mods only for myself b) now when I have time I actually can work on real mods.

Q: Why this topic and this poll?

A: Since I cannot do two such big things at once and I cannot decide myself what's better, I decided to leave the decision for the Nexus community.

Q: Release the new house as a single mod?

A: Not at this point. It's only a sketch of thing's to come and it's useless at the moment.

Please share your opinions/ask any questions and vote!

EDIT: One more thing. As the poll end I will try and start to gather people who could help me in the development. Poll will be officialy closed (i.e. I will start working on the result about a week from starting this topic)

Well, yes, I do realise that. I didn't say it right. Let me correct that :).

So apart from guns, there will be much more stuff to do. Cars, new interactions, new characters, new textures, new maps, new items and much, much more. Like I said, I do realise that and I have time for that. But thanks for pointing that out.

... I hate to break it to you. It takes a professional team years. Members in their team are seasoned pros too. You could do it... but it would take years before you even make something close to presentable. The objects are too unrealistic to be achieved in my opinion.

As I said before - I know it will take time. But looking at MS here for example: releasing it piece by piece would work would it not?

Create a working starting house, a bit of exterior with ways out blocked by barricades or something else. Release. Later on, unblock that add some more exterior, another house a new feature and release it. Add something more, release it. Im not saying I will accomplish this in two days, but if I work cell by cell and script by script then sooner or later it will become something, something big and awesome wouldn't you agree with me on the? It's not like I just had some ideas and I came straight here to post them without even thinking about the workload and time it would take. Nothing was created in a day.

And, I plan on getting a team to help me so I won't be working alone on that.

I would really really love to see Shivering Isles in Skyrim a) because i played it over and over again cuz it was so good and b) because of the better graphics of skyrim would make it so much more epic.

Maybe you could team up with some other really good mod makers in the comunity such as muppetpuppet the creator of moonpaths to elsweyr (in which he created a whole new land with a main quest and side quests, quite a popular mod). I think if some of the best modders that like shiveriing isles as much as we do were to gather together then a shivering isles mod for skyrim could become a reality.

Please make a SI mod it would be so epic.

Oh and could someone also make the Mord'sith armor from legend of the seeker, the mods that have attempted this so far have come up short since they just painted the nightingale armour red, I want it to actualy look like the armor from the show and be High Res. I would love to watch my female character's sweet CBBE ass jingle around in red leather.

GREAT IDEA!!!, you should work with pro modders, like even from other games like minecraft or fallout or oblivion, people that is good at modding and skyrim modders also. Also, it would be nice to see a cool house from nowdays (hell yeah), btw for getting it it sould be like a realm, and the way to enter is by creating a portal somewhere in skyrim so you dont get skryim very big and laggy. For the Shisvering Isles idea, i wish this mod to be true, cuz i love shivering isles and i loved the part killing the gatekeeper, and haskill was an epic dude. Overall, great ideas, and perfect mods if you finish them it would be like a must get.

Only issue I can see with SI is Sheagorath's voice. You cannot port the voice files from Oblivion to Skyrim unless you get Bethesda to OK it. As for myself If I want to play in Shivering Isle i will just play it because I have it.

Now for MS, I actualy thought about doing something similar but frankly I dont have the time to do it. I already have vehicle and weapon models plus many house models that can be ported, but I dont have any animations for the guns or vehicles.

To give you scope on the size of the undertaking I lead a team of 12 modders doing a complete overhaul of an old FPS game. We spent a year making 500+ new models and getting them useable by the game. 1 year 12 modelers on the models alone and we kept all the old ones because we could. (But Skyrim has an advantage, porting models is easy since there are tools to do it and the format isnt locked.) Then 6 of us made the 24 COOP/SP maps for the campaign, and another dozen maps for multiplayer. Scripting wasnt even an issue because the map editor for the game made the scripts, all we did was pick what event type for the if and then parameters , who, where, and what. 100 times simpler than Skyrim. Maps took a couple monthes to make and about a month tweaking and fixing after beta testing.

So doing it solo you will be making the models alone for over a year at the very least, then building all the interior cells? making the worldspace and decorating it? Quite frankly you are probably looking at 4 years working on it solo if you are planning on a complete overhual and it will be considerably smaller than Skyrim.

I would really suggest just doing an alternate universe thing where there is both modern and ancient side by side to begin. Add modern stuff to whats exhisting maybe a few modern villages or better a small modern part of cities and the largest villages. Those that live there use modern weapons and armor. and slowly add more modern and remove ancient. This way you can do it modular and maybe if you are ambtious enough actualy end up converting Skyrim into a modern world.

Anyway dont let naysayers tell you you cannot do it because its too large. If you want to do it then do it!
