There is a lot of great mods. Althougt I would recommend to not use many game changing mods on your first playthrought. Then you will know how the game looks and feels unmodified. You will then know which parts of the game you want to change.

If your character get stuck again, press § to open the console, then write tcl (toggle collision) and press enter. press § again to close the console. Now you can fly anywhere, througt solide objects. When done press § and write tcl to toggle collision on then press § to close the console.

For more information about how to use mods read the Oblivion Mods FAQ: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...livion_Mods_FAQ

I am probably going to get laughed at for this but what is that symbol you are typing? You had me searching my keyboard for it and I could not find it.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, I already figured that I would not really want to change actual game play right now because I am new to the game and want to get a feel for it. I will be bookmarking mods like the above until I am ready for and overhaul of character badies.

Right now I am somewhat interested in finding the best natural environments mod because I really like some of the screen shots I have seen but there are a bunch of them. I guess I should select the latest one that incorporates all the others. The fuller trees, additional flora and fauna, seasonal changes and all to make the game more emmersive all do interest me right now. Also, to hopefully solve some unrealistic game environments I have experienced. When it rains in my game it comes and goes very quick and then happens again not too much later and that just seems off. Also, it rains even in concrete corridors in the city, lol.

Do y'all think I a beginner can do one of the natural environment mods?

But please do keep suggestions comming about your favorite gameplay mods and favorite additional content mods. I will be bookmarking them to try when I have a better handle on things.

If you are new to mods and especially to downloading, please start with something simple. Not one of the huge makeover type mods like some recommend. Those large mods can be aggravating to experienced modders to get working right.

I have a set of help files for people new to downloading and mods. they include how to download a mod, how to unzip the mod how to get it into the game along with a very simple sample mod that can be downloaded to try it out and see if you are doing it right.

After you know how, then try something a little more complex.

The help files can be found here. http://s1.zetaboards.com/TheStormRavenLibrary/forum/256092/

Just click on the highlighted part to be taken to the site where this is located.

Oh no, not new to downloading at all. I download and install programs all the time. Also, I am constantly finding and plugging in various improvements for Firefox, Thunderbird and Wordpress although they are all a bit more automated than I am sure this will be.

I am just new to adding mods to games. Thanks for the link it went into my bookmarks to read through tomorrow when I have more time.

Your last sentence lets me know that I was not real clear about my pc abilities. lol Yep, know what a link is. :P

I have just never had a game that had so much mod material potential or at least that I was aware of anyway.

Also, Oblivion looks great on my pc. I game on a desktop replacement type laptop. It handles Bioshock perfectly on high settings but Crysis and Assassin's Creed I have to use a lot of medium settings with some higher ones and AC still can bring my little machine to its knees at times, lol (AC is much more graphics intensive on my machine than Crysis and you don't hear that talked about.)

So it is nice to find such a massive game that runs and looks great on my pc and that probably leads me to want to see what can be done to mod it more than other games I have.

I am primarily a shooter type gamer (Bioshock is one of my favs) and this is my first RPG and what an introduction it is for me to the genre. :D

I always thought RPGs were for the geeky WOW type kids (runs for cover, lol.) Now I am intrigued by the genre and will be picking up the two KOTORs and Mass Effect on the next paydays. I know there are some great old ones also but I am a graphics lovin fool so I find it hard to get into old games with dated graphics. Nope, I am not young. Mid thirties but I have come to video games later in life and so I am spoiled by the more realistic graphics.

Anyway, all this is to say that I am not really new to the pc, downloading, and such, just modding games.

I really appreciate all the help. I was nervous to post to a group with noob questions as I know some forums can be harsh. It is nice to see that this seems to be a very supportive community.

My computer is fairly new but not a true Gamers PC, so I've tried to take it easy on her.

Therefore I have not loaded some of the wonderful natural environments mods because I'm concerned about losing framerates.

To that end, my essential pics for environmental enhancement for the midgrade pc (mine's an HP dual core AMD with a 7350 nvidea card):

Better Water

Visible When Distant Light -(I feel this is a must have because otherwise you may miss interesting locations.

enhanced weather with shivering isles

Map Markers for Landmarks (I regret not getting the one with Wells also, but it's ok) These don't appear til you find them, but once you find them they're marked. I had completed most of the game before I got it, which I do regret also. This one's a must.

That's all I can think of that I wish I had started with, except of course, Denock Arrows!!!!

Stop friendly fire attacks on your comrades, unfortunate accidental kills etc, Get it!

In case you didn’t figure it out yet:

The key to open the console is the one below ‘esc’, to the left of the ‘1’ key. It is usually referred as the tilde (~) key. Different keyboard languages have different symbols on that key (mine is ' )

The console is a kind of “Windows Command Prompt” where you type commands that run immediately, while the game is paused. You can find a list here.

Thanks to QQuix for sorting out the confusion about the toggle console button, I was not aware that it not was the same everywhere. More information about console commands and tweaking Oblivion can be find in the Oblivion Tweak Guide at www.tweakguides.com

I do not think there is any mod that can make it stop raining in outdoor tunnels and such.

The Natural Environments mod makes a lot of changes to the weather and climate. Many people like this one, I tried it but did not like new light conditions (to bright and strong colours).

A weather mod that does not make so many change as Natural Environments is More Sky Climates http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2172 adds more weather types and makes all types of weater to occur everywhere. I tried this, liked the new weathers and cloud types, but I disabled the mod because I do not like when it is snowing in the Imperial city and raining in Bruma.

Get Wet Update http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10803 is a small mod that makes characters and creatures look wet when it is raining.

At the site dev/akm mods http://devnull.devakm.googlepages.com/ a list of more weather/ enviroment mods can be found at: http://devnull.devakm.googlepages.com/other

Oh that one! Yeah, on this computer and everyone I have ever had it is always the "`" and "~" key. Ok, got it now. Thanks

Don't be confused. This is me. I had tried to register the name "LoneStar" but something went wrong and I could only sign in as "LoneSta" so I switched names today.

Some other "Must Have" mods I favor include the Unofficial Oblivion Patches (these should go without saying, but if you're a total newbie, perhaps it needs saying), Oblivion Mod Manager, Oblivion Script Extender, Oblvion Script Optimization, and Streamline.

I'm running on a Sony VAIO laptop without a lot of graphics memory, so I use as many tricks as possible to get a decent framerate; PolyBeGone (reduces polygons on many common-object meshes), Qarl's texture packs to reduce textures, etc.

For fan-produced adventures, my favorite (by far) is Blood & Mud: Bravil Deluxe, which now has an English-language version available.

My two cents...

Good morning or afternoon LoneStarSage.

As BBen recommended already I suggest you don't tweak to much Oblivion when you start.

Personnally here are the mod I have to have when playing Oblivion and with the reasons why

1) OOO (Oscuro Oblivion Overhaul): I didn't like the levelling system of the vanilla Oblivion (vanillia = original) apparently Oscuro didn't like it either...

2) Quarl Texture Pack: is also a must do. However I suggest a 2 Giga config to run this without worrying.

3) No Psychic Guard: when playing Thief, Guards can be desperatly annoying. This mod provides you with Guards that know you are stealing only if they see you steal...

4) Finally I have installed Natural Environment: this gives you seasons, diverse weathers, fantastic night skies, insects, birds flying and so much more in short diversity in the Natural Environment.

5) And I almost forgot Female Eye Candy Body Underwear: this gives much better looking females bodies

That's basically my base everytime re-install Oblivion...

Enjoy and good RP
