hashbrownforever
Hey guys, This is hashbrownforever and I was wondering if I could get together a group of modders, to create a strategy mini game mod for skyrim, which would be similar in gameplay to something like halo wars, but without the base building. The kind of modifications that would be required, would be to have a birds eye view of a map, of which movement of the camera can be controlled just like a strategy game. Another thing to take into account would be creating a new option on the home menu of skyrim, as this mod would not feel like a proper mini game if it were accessed by some sort of door within the skyrim map. The maps would not be too hard, as you can use/edit existing maps like whiterun etc. This mod would need to feel like an actual strategy game, and so a cursor would need to be visible in the mini game. Another issue that is quick to be resolved, is the factions that will be fighting; well, I thought that we could start off with factions that are already in the game, so the stormcloaks vs imperials, the dremora vs believers of the nine divines, and Thalmor vs Forsworn. The ui would ideally be something similar to that of a game like Total War Shogun 2, where groups of units would be selected as one, through clicking on tabs in the ui. Here is a picture of the total war shogun 2 interface for units on the battlefield... http://screenshots.en.sftcdn.net/en/scrn/316000/316078/total-war-shogun-2-demo-21-700x393.jpg The amount of soldiers per unit will have to be carefully calculated, as will the unit cap, because too many units will cause the game to crash. Objectives in the battles will have to be created, otherwise, what point would there be in fighting on the view of strategy? The kind of objectives that could be used, would be like capturing flags, or holding points/structures on the map. A point system would have to be put in place for this. One other thing that concerns me, is the menu before the battle (A scenario builder). The menu would have to be something similar to command and conquer generals, in the way that you can select the map you want to play on, you can select where you want yourself to start and the enemy to start, what type of game you are going to be playing, and maybe what difficulty you will want to play on. After selecting those options, the player would then need an interface that presents a list of all the units he/she can select for the chosen faction, and a points allocation so an overspill of units is not possible (Unless hacked). Creating a menu within the real time battle for the creation of units would be a lot harder than doing it before the battle, which is why it is better to select units beforehand. Unit balancing would also have to be in place, as we don't want to have some units overpowered. We could have a class system, where you get different strengths of units like the following... Infantry ClassesGrunt - Basic soldier in groups of 5 with 250 health per soldier. - 50 Points CostBrute - Stronger slower soldiers in pairs, with 400 health per soldier. - 75 Points CostRanged - Weak soldiers in groups of 5 with only 125 health per soldier, but are very effective at range. - 50 Points CostElite - Very strong soldier by him/herself with 750 health. Will be very good at both range and melee. - 100 Points CostProtector - Strong soldiers in groups of 5 with 500 health per soldier, very good at defending from ranged and melee, but useless at attacking. - 60 Points CostHero - A specific character from the skyrim lore, that has 1000 health, and specializes in two types of magic, and either range or melee. - Only one can be obtained, and are free.Dragon Slayer - A unit that is strong with 1000 health which specialises in ranged combat, and has the ability to use shouts. - Only one can be obtained, and costs 150 points. Siege ClassesCharger - Some sort of large creature or siege engine that is used to bash down enemy barricades etc, and is good at charging (Use troll or bear combat style), strong with 800 health points. - 100 Points CostEradicator - A melee unit that is fantastic at killing infantry, has medium health for a siege class, of which is 650 Health Points. - 125 Points CostElemental - A magical unit that uses lots of magic, and is effective at both melee and range, but is weak for a siege class with 500 Health Points. - 125 Points CostVanquisher - A unit which has 100 in one particular magic, and is effective at melee with 650 Health Points. - 125 Points CostDragon - A Dragon which is the only flying unit available to players, and can only be slain by a Dragon Slayer. The dragon has 1500 Health Points. - 200 Points Cost Obviously, these units are not finalised, however, the reason why some of the statements are so generalised for the likes of the grunts and brutes, is so variation can occur between the different factions. Forsworn grunts will be better at melee than thalmor grunts, but thalmor grunts have minor skills in magic. It enables each faction to get an identity for it's own playing style. I will be happy to make all of the npc's required in this mod, but I need other people to help with the instancing, the creation of new maps and/or editing of existing ones, and the creation of the menus. I hope you have enjoyed reading my idea for a new mod for skyrim, and I hope that you will help me create this mod. hashbrownforever
hashbrownforever
Unique Traits for each Faction Hey Guys I thought that introducing individual traits would be fun and awesome. The reason why this came to mind, was because it will mean players will have to adjust to the different abilities etc of each faction to an even greater degree than before. It's a bit like how the Zerg, Protoss and Terran are very different in Starcraft 2. One of the examples I can put forward, is making the stormcloaks have their grunts specialize in all types of melee combat, but not with shields. So instead of having just the one type of grunt that is good at, let's say one handed, there are 2 different types of grunts. One of which is the one hand speciality, and the other being the two hand speciality. It could be possible to add another type of grunt, that is two handed, but only have hammers, and have a better ability in blocking compared to all other types of grunt in the mod. Having a wider range of units will mean the player can play in different ways with the same faction. I have also decided that types of weapons ie. Dwarven, can be used as a differentiation between the classes and factions. Thalmor grunts may have one hand for restoration and the other as a dagger, but the dagger being elven, compared to the stormcloaks who have wielded two one handed weapons which are steel, and specializes in one handed. This would cause a change of tactics between the factions, as the player using the Thalmor Grunts will have to make the units attack in short bursts, while the stormcloak player will be able to send his infantry in without giving two f@#?'s. I wanted to have the stormcloaks and the imperials, as the two factions which are the easiest to play as, so new players can get to grips with the game easily. The likes of the Thalmor and the Forsworn are going to be the types of factions that are hard to master, but attract the attention of the more experienced player. I hope you are interested in my mod, and I need other people to help me make it as it such a big mod. hashbrownforever
