Okay guys I played this game for like 200 hours on my xbox. I bought this new laptop with my tax refund a few months ago, so of course I'm gonna get one of my favorite games ever.

I bought the ultimate edition thing on steam, and was having a blast. But it crashes all the time now. I downloaded around 15 mods or so. I used FOMM, FNVEDIT, Boss, etc, and it still crashes.

 

I actually managed to play today for 15 minutes or so before I crashed upon entering a new town. It usually happens if I fast travel or if I load into a new area. I got rid of the mods I deemed unnecessary. I really like the UI changes (fast trade, special needs, etc) but if that's the culprit I have no problem getting rid of em. I'm used to FNV on xbox so if I have to get rid of some of the mods, I'm ok with that.

 

I hope you tech geniuses can help me. I haven't even played the DLCs yet and I really want to. Thanks guys.

Oh and I also downloaded this one mod called Gamecompanion which makes your game go into "fake fullscreen." It's supposed to cut down on crashes but it doesn't seem like it's helped too much. Maybe a little. I might have gone from a crash every 5 minutes to a crash to every 10 minutes.

Just a quick thought. Did the crashes start from the beginning of your playthrough, or were things going along fine and then suddenly it started crashing? If this is the case, you are probably dealing with a corrupted save, and will have to go back and find the last "good" save and play from there.

 

Also, a list of the mods you are running and your load order will be helpful in diagnosing the problem if this is not the case.

If I remember right, they just started to happen. I remember playing the beginning in Goodsprings for a good hour or so without crashing. Then it went to not being able to play for 10 minutes without crashing. Are there guidelines somewhere on how to avoid save corruption? I'll google it too. And if you look at my first post again, at the bottom is a picture of my mods. I think that's the load order they're in since the picture is from FNVEdit. Thanks for your help.

 

Oh another question. The CASM mod that autosaves for you, are its autosaves good to use? Or should I just deactivate that mod and get in the practice of saving all the time?

Damn it.. I started a whole new game to try and avoid save corruption. I just finished the tutorial, killed the Barton guy who tries to trick you, then I go to fast travel back to Goodsprings and my game crashes. This is so annoying. I just want to play some since it's my day off.

I think I may have fixed it. I'm saying this while knocking on wood. While googling I found this page:

I tried the thing where you edit the .ini and change the thread line to =1 instead of =0 and I haven't crashed since. I've been playing for a good hour or so. I reactivated some of my mods since I guess they weren't the cause and I still haven't crashed. Happy day!

I spoke too soon. As soon as I said that I went back to play my game. I was talking to Michael Angelo and got his quest then I went to fast travel to Sunset Sasparilla HQ and it crashed. Lame.
