Making books

Firstly, before modding anything, you should go into Data, select Oblivion.esm, and click "OK". This will load everything Oblivion uses into the game to make bookmaking easier and allowing you to place them in the world. On the far left of the Object Window, there should be a tree-list. In this case, you want Items/Book. If you open up an existing one and change the ID, when you save it you'll have the opportunity to create a new book instead of just changing the ID of the old one. You might not want to bother with the .nif file and the icon image for now, and just pick a "base" book that looks like what you want. Aside from that you have a few self-explanatory attributes you can alter like weight and value, and the text-box. You should probably remove any Script it has. The Teaches drop-down box determines what skill, if any, the book teaches. The Enchantment drop-down box should also be empty, unless you want it to be a scroll-ish item. Can't be Taken prevents the player picking it up, Scroll changes the way it's read from pages to a neverending vertical line like a web page, (or a scroll. :P) and Quest Item stops the player selling or dropping it. Just type all the text you want into the Book Text box.

You should probably take a look at the CS Wiki's Book Formatting tutorial for spacing, images, and different types/colors of writing. A primer for the Construction Set and, most notably, the Render Window can be found here, and will most likely be necessary unless you just want to put the books in an existing container.
