Pinpointed a CTD area, can we pinpoint the cause please?

Ok, I am able to recreate the ctd 100% of the time here.

 

I am walking east on a road toward the quest marker for "Truth Ore Consequences" to collect an ore sample. Its on the east end of the map, and as I'm coming up to a pack of wolves i get a CTD. I saved about 20 feet away from the area and have been able to recreate the CTD 100% of the time.

 

I have disabled my mods and it is still happening. I don't have any mods installed that add too many things to the game world.. No extra houses or anything like that. Mostly aesthetic mods and magic/player/weapon mods..

 

My papyrus log spazzed out at the end and the ones that were repeating were firefly.psc and critter.psc and another one. I'm at work and will update the thread when I get home with pics, video and papyrus log if necessary..

 

Any ideas on what would be causing it/how I can pinpoint it better?

What I usually do in a situation like that is coc directly into a player house and sleep for 31 days. There is a mod that allows you to do this in one shot, instead of in 24 hour increments. This allows everything in the game to essentially reset. It works pretty well in clearing up mysterious crashes in my experience. Often those are caused by junk that has accumulated in save files, or changes to npc's in the area introduced since the game was last saved. I would try this approach. No guarantees of course. This game is very unstable with mods.

 

EDIT: You should try disabling SkyMoMod first. I stopped using it since it seemed to be associated with too many game lockups. If you still have the crash after disabling it, then try the sleeping approach.

Update(although it seems like no one cares)

 

I installed the lore friendly replacer for skyrim monster mod that also removes the dragons for better compatibility with deadly dragons, and while I no longer get the CTD, the first time I went to the town to collect the ore sample, the buildings disappeared. I saw a door out in the open but no building connected to it. I restarted the game and the buildings came back, but when I tried to enter the mine to clear out the spiders the game froze on a loading screen..

 

What is wrong with this part of the map!? I don't have the problems anywhere else.

I know this post is a few months old but I am also trying to pin point the, "Firefly.Disable() - "<native>" Line ?

[None].Firefly.disableAndDelete() - "Critter.psc" Line 283..etc." (papyrus log).

 

Was any new information discovered regarding this CTD? I have never installed any of those monster mods before, however I heard mention of the "Claralux" mod. I had that installed at one point and I recognize that the author used the old "onupdate" as opposed to the "autoupdate" scripting.. bloaters (it has been a while so please excuse my butchery of the script tasks).

Anywho if anyone has any leads for some fireflies or critters, for that matter, t'would be most appreciated.

Often a CTD in a specific place in game is not an active mod, but caused by something you removed but is still in the save you are using. Because it is in the save, the game is looking for it when you go into that cell - it's not there, - CTD. :pinch:

 

Drop back to a very early save - such as the one you should have made when you first exited the cave after Helgen. - If you don't have one there, any early save after Helgen (Helgen has problems with some mods)

 

Then try going to that location - If you can go there with no CTD, it's caused by something that is no longer present (or was not yet added by a mod) but was present in that earlier save.

 

Now comes the fun part - figuring what it is that is missing.

 

Try later and later saves to zero in on the time that the problem starts.

Jump to a save near your present game and try.

Then if you get the CTD, jump to a save half way between the one that worked and your present game

Use this halfway technique to zero in on when it starts - you should find a place where one save works, and the next one CTDs. Then figure out what you changed between those two saves - what you removed or what you added to the game. You may have to just resume from the last save that works.

OK thank you very much for the tip, although the experimentation with a tremendous amount of mods would make the spectrum, well.... tremendous.

 

The suggestion you made brings up a good point with something I had read earlier regarding a type of location based error / conflict. But that is not the case with this issue. But the usage of going to Helgen and tracking backwards is food for thought.

 

I have a question though, is there a general database for any bad script files? Is there a method to check any inconsistencies with current mods and scripts within the script folder? Boss will check with load orders and Wrye-Bash is great but it doesnt check for any old script files (that I am aware of).

I am thinking some erroneous that is occurring (within my game), is related to conflicts within these new custom-behavior patches and the like (Fore's, JoshNZ's, etc.) when these are stacked with pre-packaged, stand-alone, scripted-AI packages (not to mention different skeletal types and weight paintings, etc. within these packages) there is room for CTD-a'plenty *whew that was a mouth full*.

 

At any rate, I appreciate any furthered, as well as previous, assistance given sir.
