Agathon343
Just before I start, i want to tell you, that I´m no native speaker! I understand everything you´re writing to me but the things that i´m writing by myself could be a little bit strange sometimes! ;)I would be happy if you make me aware of the really bad mistakes in my text, so i can do it better next time ^^But i think that everyone will understand what i mean! Then let´s start this! As the title says, i want to start modding Fo NV.It´s a new and clean installment and I got some experience by modding Fo 3 and 4 and TW3.Till now i always used NMM but it´s some kind of a really buggie and outdatet programm.. the other side, i´m used to it. And that brings me to my core question. Which mod manager should i use? Which one would be the best for NV?Is Vortex ready and stable enough to use? Or should i take FOMM Fork Edition or MO2 or just stay at NMM?And is´nt MO2 a little bit user unfriendly? I´m a little bit confused because i googled this a lot, but the answers are just as different as they could be... and the most of them are to old to make a decision based on them. That´s why i thought it would be the best if i´m asking by myself. So :) I hope you will help me! This time i want to start from the best base i can to avoid senceless bugs by beginning. Till then, thank you all and have a nice day!
dubiousintent
I recommend you read the entire "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article to understand the differences between this game and others you may have experience with; especially if this is your first attempt to mod FNV. Take your time to do some research up front and you will have few problems when you start to play for fun. The "bad news" is that there is much to learn. The "good news" is that we know most of, and have solutions for, the typical problems. ALL mod managers take a bit to learn. As a result, people have a tendency to stick with the first one they spent time learning to use, regardless of later, better alternatives. (This is the same with text editors and other programming tools.) But when support stops, it's time to move on. The problems are just going to get worse without fixes being made. There is no one "best choice". Much depends upon what you want the manager to be able to handle for you. Unless you are willing to look into the technical aspects of how each handles things, you can really only go on the basis of formal reviews, documentation, tutorials, and the way the interface makes sense to you. (Personally I learned to use "Wrye Bash" with Oblivion and easily transitioned to "Wrye Flash" for FNV. But many are intimidated by all of it's available features; not that you have to use them all but they are part of why I prefer it. I still have to use FOMM (Fork Edition) to install some "scripted install" mods just because they are packaged too complexly to handle any other way.) It's those differences in what people want that led to different approaches to the "mod management problem". There is a section on mod manager choices in the "General Advice" article linked above -Dubious-
Agathon343
First, thank you for your answer! I´m happy someone took his time to help me :)I´m absolut willed to learn all i have to know about modding NV but for the beginning it´s often too much to learn at once, so that you dont know where to begin with. I will read the linked article and then i will see if there are more questions to ask ^^When it comes to the Mod Manager i still dont know what to do... Maybe i have to learn much more about the functionality, so i know next time which one to choose by myself. But that will be a long way of learning i think. And in concern of the differences between the various Mod Managers.. I´m not shure what i want them to be. You can use programms like Loot and others also external but if they are integradet its a lot more comfortable.NMM was simple to use. When i used it first i just startet without any thinking and solved every problem just when it appeared and it worked well. But it took a lot of time and was often very exhausting. This time i want to avoid such time consuming and annoying troubles. To load a game 15 times just to fix one creepy tree is not so satisfying xD
