Voice Audio Bug

Has anyone else encountered this? Around the time the new update came up, I have been having voice audio problems. Sometimes, while talking to an NPC, he will move as he is speaking, but there's no audio, and the subtitles just flash by. Sometimes an NPC won't say his line at all and it holds up the quest. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and it hasn't worked. Bug in the latest update, maybe? Edited by CaptainRC

@CaptainRC, the issue you described usually happens when the game doesn't find the voice dialog .FUZ file.

Have you checked your skyrim.ini (in 'My Documents' somewhere) to make sure all the BSA's are entered into the search lists correctly?

Default version should look something like this:

[Archive]

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa

sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

Use Steam to verify the integrity of your game cache.

if you do not find a problem here, my guess is patch v1.6 may have caused dialog mods you installed to cause voice malfunctions somehow,

suggest you review/troubleshoot your mod list and loading order for any overhaul type dialog mods; however, i have not heard about any specific

mod that include voice components that add/change game dialog causing issues, so again, i'm guessing.

i hope it is not one of the follower mods..

you did not provide the identity of the NPC's with voice dialog issues (or are you having an issue with all of them?).

If you use the BSA archives from mods that have .FUZ files in them,

have you considered extracting the BSA's and installing into Skyrim as loose files instead?

there is an update of mod: Followers can Relax by King Coin - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9504

to fix Dark Brotherhood/Cicero issue but this wasn't related to the v1.6 update.

Well, I don't have very many mods. And the only ones that have any voice dialog files in them are the Portal 2 Space Core Mod, and the Unofficial Skyrim Patch. I encountered the problem again after starting the game all over again, so I exited the game, deactivated the USP and tried it again. Then I followed the same pattern of talk and when I got to the part that was silent, it worked again. I guess that was the problem. Though, I'd better keep playing to see if that's a permanent fix.

@CaptainRC, cool, haven't tried the 'Unofficial Skyrim Patch' yet, maybe after they've had a chance

to make compatibility updates against whatever the latest Bethesda official patch v1.6 did to the game.

Unofficial Skyrim Patch by Kivan - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19

On another note, wonder if there is anywhere on the net Bethesda provides more comprehensive

documentation/detail on exactly what they change/update in the patches?

Something like this would be very helpful to the PC modding community instead of having to

reverse engineer what the developers did or troubleshoot when something breaks.
