Arethiel
I'm going to give the OP an answer, but considering his username he might be a troll. You don't like it, than you can leave quite frankly. I'm not into pushing members off Nexus, quite the opposite, but complaining about something so...minute is a bit ridiculous on your part. Steam Workshop has mods too you know and most of the authors here mirror them there though me personally I'd prefer to be on Nexus (With NMM precisely since it's more functional then SW is) since....you know, Nexus actually works. Besides, if you consider your email address to be personal information than good god man, how do you exist on the Internet? Most sites require you to register nowadays and some require more than just Age and Email addresses. You also weren't forced, you could have chosen to not register. And if you've ever had to pay for bandwidth (As I have before), than you would know the reason behind required registration. Bots leeching bandwidth=Annoying and expensive. Stemin
I read this one yesterday... slept on it... read it again this morning. The OP's expression of his point is extreme, but I do get where he's coming from. EVERYWHERE you want to post or view a picture or watch a video now, they want you to register and it gets to the point where you have handles on places you don't remember. Your sister needs help with her car, and you need experts so you join this website devoted to thsi car to ask a question (or sometimes registration is required just to use the search) and then 2 years later you're still getting e-mails from them. This is just my opinion, but I'm not sure the excuse of bandwidth is a particularly strong argument for two reasons. For starters, Dark0ne could go with a minimalist ad approach and actually make money off of every hit. I haven't noticed any ads, so I don't think he chose to do this. He opted for the premium member system and that works for this place, but I'm just saying... there's an alternative where you can turn that activity into profit. Sites like Gamefaqs and Insidehoops have turned this type of idea into a gold mine. And yes I'm aware that ads are obtrusive, and yes I'm aware that both of those sites suffer from a dumbing down of conversation, but those are extreme examples. A few well placed ads might be enough to fund this place without putting it into garbage territory. But regardless of that, the other reason is simply this... Joining the site does not guarantee participation, or that anyone who joins is going to be a contributing member. The few minutes it takes to register is not going to keep too many people away (and limit said bandwidth) if they really want the mods. MxReview is killing it on Youtube with his mod videos and he's a perfect example of what I'm talking about. The only contribution the guy actually makes is throwing the word Nexus out now and again. I've watched his videos and looked into his posting here, and he actually has a total of 15 posts, one of which is his post advertising that he would be doing a weekly mod review and not ONE person replied to the thread saying they wanted their mods on there. If you watch his videos after a few weeks, it becomes apparent that the only thing he really does is check the hot files page. This guys is probably making a check off his ads on youtube based on the fact that he took a minute to join this place and has been exploiting it ever since. Even the argument that joining the website is necessary because of the adult content is pretty weak because unless I'm mistaken, what's to stop someone from just lying? I know I've lied on certain web sites because they've asked for my address of all things! No offense to Dark0ne, but I've said this before. Just because you run a web site doesn't say a thing about your intelligence or what type of person you are. I'm not giving away personal information on the net either. Anyways, this is just my 2 cents. Take it for what its worth. It doesn't effect me one way or another because I joined for the conversation, not necessarily the mods (don't use 'em so far).
