ATTENTION ALL MOD AUTHORS

What is with the failure to supply read me's anymore?

I rarely add a mod right after I download it, it usually sits in a folder until I either want to change something specific after I come across it or create a new game.

Out of the last forty mods I have downloaded, a grand total of three have supplied a read me with their work. Just how hard is it to open a word document and supply a couple of sentences on what your mod alters, replaces or adds? This is especially true of mods that just use vanilla items and only an ESP is supplied. Having to go back online and chase down the file to find out what their ESP does is a chore I can do without.

Mod authors need to realise that a majority of their mods are just going to be sent to the recycle bin when they do not supply a read me, especially mods that have undiscriptive names or that require other mods to work or can only be used after a certain quest has been completed.

Yes, I've placed this rant in each nexus in hopes some authors MIGHT read it and actually start adding them.

Someone did read it . unfortunately for you it is a moderator.

Banned for spamming the sites with your personal rant. - one instance was sufficient, two would have probably gone unnoticed 3 would have rated a strike. A lot gets you kicked out.

Some people add readmes to the mod page without putting them in the download. I think most people use readmes to figure out how to install mods, and once they know how to install any mod they stop thinking much about readmes. That's me at least.

Please note, this is coming from someone who's taking utmost care to provide all information necessary and detailed enough for the least mod-savvy of users to know how to get things working, but...

What's up with this misplaced entitlement lately? Only today I happened about 3 posts similar to this one and each one made me feel more and more bad for sharing my mods with this kind of public!

Sure, it's very important to have a good readme with comprehensible instructions, to properly tag your mods after uploading, add screenshots, requirements, permissions and all that stuff. I completely agree!

But the way it's asked for nowadays, always expected, demanded even, with the utmost lack of respect for mod authors' work in general... is really starting to rub me the wrong way.

Mod authors need to realise that a majority of their mods are just going to be sent to the recycle bin when they do not supply a read me, ...

And on this note, mod users need to realize that the majority of mod authors couldn't and shouldn't care less!
