Michlo
Does anybody know a console command to stop a persistent screen shimmer please? It started when I stumbled across a camp of soldiers near Skingrad and by this, initiated a quest called "Military build-up near Skingrad". I believe it might be part of the The Elder Council mod. I cannot advance the quest as, despite being a Sergeant in the Imperial Legion, apparently I don't have enough military experience for the Captain so I'm stuck with this very annoying shimmer no matter where I go. Cheers.
Varus Torvyn
Nope, you're talking about the Malevolent mod. It's a special FX programmed in by Simyaz. It will go away after you progress past the beginning of the quest. The effect is due to fireballs being shot at you. It's actually an innovative addition to the game, showing probable effects of Destruction magic being cast at or near you.

Yes, it is rather innovative except I don't think it should be happening at any place in the game world. I'm far from there now and apparently still feeling the affects of fireballs. hehe Anyway, thank you again, perhaps I can now find out how to progress. Cheers. Well I did some digging and it seems I'm not going to be able to advance this quest until I've finished the main one. :( So, does anybody know of a way to remove the screen shimmer besides me going a long way back to a save game before I stumble across the camp please or uninstalling the mod (which I suppose should fix it)? Cheers.
Varus Torvyn
Yes, Michlo. Do a mod restart. With a mod restart you don't have to uninstall the mod files. 1. Run OBMM, uncheck Malevolent.esp, launch Oblivion.2. Load your last save. Ignore the notice of content missing. Shimmer will be gone.3. Go to another cell in the game (but not where Malevolent takes place).4. Make a save. Exit Oblivion.5. Run OBMM, recheck the esp file. Close OBMM. If you don't use OBMM, then use whatever you like for controlling data files. After doing a mod restart, then Malevolent and your game will be reset back to normal. I do use OBMM and I believe I have this one as an oMod (I'm still stuck at work for another hour, heh) so I think I can just deactivate, reactivate along the lines of what you've said. Thanks and a kudo to you, mate.
Varus Torvyn
You're welcome. Glad I could help. And yes, you are correct. If you have an Omod, then deactivating it in place of unchecking an .esp file is the correct way to go. I thought about changing all of my mods into Omods, but what stopped me is not all mod authors release updates in Omod format, so it's easier to update a mod if you leave it in the format it's posted as on TESNexus. Thanks for the kudos. I sent a PM to Arilita about your glitch with a link to your topic. That's a nice catch on your part. I was of the belief that the mod would not start if the Main Quest had not been completed. You found a loophole where it would start.
