Speech 2.0

Hey guys, what's going on?

My name is HSereno and I'm really new to these forums. This is actually my first time posting here, so if I'm doing something wrong be sure to let me know.

I wanted to talk to you guys about the one skill that's kind of useless, in my humble opinion on skyrim, Speech, and how i think we (or should I say you mod magicians out there) can change this.

Though this skill can be completely avoided (and probably is by anyone who isn't a hardcore roleplayer) I think it has a huge potential, especially if you want to roleplay a charismatic character like I do.

The first problem I notice is the persuasion dialogue options are way too rare and insignificant if you're looking at the big picture and that's the first thing that needs correcting, so here's what i propose. Making persuasion/intimidation/bribe available to pretty much 'every' NPC. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but it gets better so bear with me. If you persuaded a merchant, you'd get a discount (pretty straightforward) and if you persuaded another citizen, you might unlock them as possible ''buddy''s. Now what i call buddys here is this: followers that don't follow you everywhere like lydia would. They wouldn't cross the entire planet with you, and they probably wouldn't fight off a dragon while you ran off, but you could have up to three at any given moment. It'll all be clear in a second.

Now on to Part 2 of our plan.

The same logic that is applied to wolves when your in beast form would be applied to every Typically hostile NPC (I'll call it disposition here but i really have no idea how it works) meaning that if you had a high enough Speech skill, or even Infamy is you're dealling with bandits, or being a vampire, if you're approaching other vampires, they wouldn't attack you, and more: you could actually talk to them. You see where this is going now right? Just imagine the possibilities...

Imagine for instance, a 'pure' rogue. A character with a knack for getting into trouble, but always seems to dodge the bullet, with good stealth, quick reflexes, LUCK, and most importantly, Charisma.... Picture this character trying to complete Saadia's quest. For anyone who hasn't completed it here's the jist of it: you go to a cave filled with bandits, and at the end of that cave there's different bandits.

With this new system, you could go to the cave and with good speech, talk to the guard out front. Persuading him (or bribing) would increase the disposition of every other bandit inside, and you could safely go in. They wouldn't attack you, but the bandit chief, being higher levelled was not so easily impressed and he would come up to talk to you. Your persuasion attempt fails. Close the dialogue, and every bandit attacks you. But say you try to bribe him.. he accepts (afterall he is a mercenary..) and with that successfull bribe, every bandit in the cave gets a hugge bonus to their disposition. So much so, that you unlock them as potential buddies.

With your new found army, you can position them right before The Alik'r, who, after being challenged, chase you right into an ambush. in the midst of the confusion you slip a poisoned knife (using a gift from arcadia, who you spent the time persuading beforehand) through the Alik'r chief's spleen and the others stand down. Not only do you complete the quest unhindered, but you can now use that same cave as a hideout, seeing as the bandits won't attack you. Imagine the roleplaying and gameplay possibilities... looks pretty damn fun to me

Maybe even put a perk in that would make the disposition affect animals, so if you wanted to roleplay a savage wood elf who almost never goes to cities, now you could give him a pet sabre cat or something like that, I don't know.

Anyway, that's my plan for reviving the Speech skill, I think it could provide for a few more hours of very fun gameplay with a class never before seen in videogames.

I don't know anything about modding, but if you guys think it could be done be sure to let me know, and also if you think it would be cool show your support and suggestions and let's make this happen.

Thanks for your time and I'm sorry if this is a bit too long.

Cheers
