RavenX13
Today when I tried to open FOMM, I got the infamous "something bad happened" message. I have seen many topics and I still can't get it to work. I run NMM for Skyrim, but the 2 systems have run fine since I first installed FOMM and I fixed their conflict months ago. My NMM is giving a similar message when I try to open it. I am desperate and you guys are my last hope. I would like to avoid uninstalling NMM. I will note that I have un-installed and re-installed FOMM seven times, if that has any effect. Please help. Gribbleshnibit8
You have encountered the issue that arises from installing FOMM and NMM together, without changing the default paths for either program. NMM uses a new format of the same files that FOMM does. So when you run NMM it writes to the files. Launch FOMM and it tries to read files it doesn't recognize, and will crash, but it modifies them before it realizes they're the wrong files, meaning NMM can no longer open them either. Your solution is to actually uninstall both mod managers. You should make sure you have no mods installed when you do this. You can use Installation Cleaner to remove all mods. Make sure you edit the exclude file to the New Vegas files instead of the FO3 files. Once you've got everything clear and uninstalled, install FOMM first. Launch it and go to the settings. In the section for where information should be stored, change the paths to something else that makes sense for you. I have my mods in a special folder for each game on my games drive, and in that folder I made a folder for the FOMM data. Once you've done that, close FOMM and then relaunch it to make sure it has the new path. Do this for FO3 and FNV if you use both games. Now install NMM. On launch of each game, at first launch for that game, it gives you an option for where the data should come from, IIRC. I select my mods folder, and then make another folder for NMM install information. This gives me a folder with all my mods for a game, and then two extra folders, one for FOMM data, and one for NMM. If it's done correctly, you should wind up with both mod managers installed side by side, and running just fine. If you don't, then you did something wrong and you need to start over. It took me about 8 tries to get the order correct and all the paths worked out, and to figure out exactly what was going on.
