As evidenced in my few posts so far, I'm new to this, so please forgive my noobyness. I've got an Acer Swift 3, and for about five days everything went smoothly. After the Skyrim update though, I ran into freeze-crashes, and the story hasn't changed with a clean save. Thirty seconds after I exit Helgen, I run into a total free which I can't Alt-Tab out of. I've made sure SKSE64 is up to date and done a couple of cleans, particularly on Immersive Creatures. Can anyone advise me what I've missed? I'm aware I'm at the low end of VRAM for this game, but as I said it previously ran just fine so I don't feel like that's the issue.

What do you mean by "cleans" on Immersive Creatures?

More than likely it is mods that have not been updated to run with the latest SKSE64 update. You will probably have to wait for those mods to update if you want to use them. Also you will probably have to start a new game after installing the updated mods.

One of the drawbacks of SSE continuing to have updates. Although for those of us who bought the original Skyrim in 2011 it is a familiar position as Bethesda brought out the DLCs and updates to Skyrim.

You should not clean mods of ITMs as LOOT does not know whether those ITMs are necessary for the mod to function properly. The only esm files you should clean are Update and the three DLCs, it is usually ok to clean UDRs unless the mod author says otherwise.

Do you mean when you download the new version of the mod using "download with manager" it is not showing up in NMM's mod panel? It is easy to tell if the mod downloaded by checking the Download Manager (0) at the bottom of the mod page in NMM. If the mod you are downloading is the same version number as the mod you already have you will not see it in the mod page but it will show as downloaded in the Download Manager bar at the bottom of the mod page.

Ah. I may have to do some deleting and reinstalling then - thanks for saving me from doing more damage. My main concern was the C. Location alert that comes up for Immersive Creatures, which actually is still there.

Like, I've downloaded the new versions but in NMM they don't register as such - they show up as the previous version and I still have the associated alert. So from what you're saying, that's not actually an issue?

Just took a look at Immersive Creatures and found it had been updated, I have the mod but do not have any of my SSE mods installed as I am not playing the game at the moment. The reason you are having trouble with updating the mod is the author did not change the version number when he updated the mod, thus NMM downloads the updated mod but does not add it to your mods as it thinks you have the mod already. I have noticed this with other mods and although I am sure the mod author has a good reason for this it can be confusing.

In cases like this I completely uninstall the mod by selecting it, then right clicking on it and selecting "uninstall or delete" then delete mod permanently. After I do this I download the updated mod and then install it. The mod author does have instructions basically telling you to do this on the link he provided for installing the mod. You would do well to read this as he also tells you how to install his mod in an on-going game. Very important to follow those instructions or there is the potential to corrupt your game or just not have the mod work properly.

Thanks. That's tremendously helpful :)
