bluevirtue
Since i've been playing New Vegas, my brother has decided to try and get his working again. His computer runs skyrim, but in the past it has refused to run Oblivion, or either one of the fallout games. It loads, gets to the Bethesda screen, and then crashes. He's got Windows 7, Nvidea GeForce 8600 GTS. So far, he's tried: running as administrator, Running in compatibility mode for Windows XP service pack 2, 3, even Windows Vista (you never know)playing in windowed modeupdating drivers and direct X,defragging and verifying local contentreloading and reinstalling several times, messed with his .ini files a couple of times (which only ended up making the problem worse somehow)Praying to various deities and other supernatural figureheadsIf anyone has any way to help, we'd be sorely grateful. So far all the internet searches he's done have either been giving advice that doesn't work, or the responses are a mix of "I have this problem too" and "i have all this and the game runs great for me (lol)," neither of which are particularly helpful. So I come to you, great sage of the New Vegas knowledgebase, as you have helped me several times before, and your mods are quite delightful. jcro25
Hello, I had this problem a few years ago for Fallout 3. My solution was installing it to a different location instead of the default. I decided to install it to my Documents in a folder called Fallout 3. A friend of mine also experienced this problem his solution was to create a new account :wallbash: Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 are both amazing games but I wouldnt go that far to get them to work.Anyway dont edit the INI file if you don't know what your doing you will really mess the game up and that will have no effect weather the game crashes or not.Make sure all Video cards weather they be NVIDIA or AMD etc are updated to the latest version and the same with the game.If the game is on a CD then make sure its compatible with your type of OS and make sure your running the latest version. If the game was downloaded from Steam then re download it, there have been cases in the past where people dont have all the necessary files. I hope this solves your headache! Please let me know how you get on  Thanks,Jcro25 :nuke:

jcro25
Right, well I really cannot think what could be causing the problem if you have tried everything I have said. I recommend reading this forum regardless of weather its a Steam version or not.Fallout 3 GOTY start-up crashI hope this one helps,ThanksJcro25 :nuke:
Cyberlazy
Try messing about with sound settings. FO3 was very bad with soundcards to the point where I bought 3 diffrent soundcards trying to get one that was both stable and did not cause music to stutter.I ended up with one that still had music stutter but was at least stable. -_- Sound hardware accel to 0, new sound drivers, etc.
