Cancermantis
I've tried doing various searches for how to do this, and the tools needed to do so, but with no luck. Best I could find were some outdated plugins not compatible with the more recent versions of these programs I use. My preference is for Maya, as I've spent more time modeling with that than anything else, but I figured if that wasn't possible, I could import the models into 3ds Max, and then export from that into Maya. Then go in reverse for getting the model into skyrim. My searches for tools and instructions on this matter turned up nothing for 3ds Max 2013 or Maya 2011, just earlier versions (2011 and 2009, respectively). I'd rather not install multiple versions of these programs if I can avoid it, as that just seems like a waste of hard drive space. So if there is a way to get models from skyrim into either 3ds Max 2013 or Maya 2011, I'd be grateful if someone could point me to it.

However, that doesn't mean you can't model something in Maya and then export the OBJ into 3DS Max (I do it all the time). The problem lies in what you've already stated - the necessary plugins are for older version of Max, and I'm not aware of any new ones coming out for 2013. Your best bet would be to get a student copy of 3DS Max 2012. Once you have that, you should be set.
