  1. 1. Do you care if an NPC does not have a voice? Even if that voice were computer generated?

    • Yes, I hate having NPCs that don't have voices

    • I don't care if they do or don't all that matters is the game content.

===Information====

I plan to make this a quest in which the player is contacted to help with an excavation team that is attempting to enter an old ruined city the problem is that the area in which the city is located, began to become very active earthquakes are frequent and have all but destroyed the above ground structures. Finally when the player does enter the ruin, he discovers that the earthquakes are the result of machinery gone wild in the ruin and must stop them before the whole mountainside buckles.

===Straight to the point===

Now i have a problem though. I need to make dialogue and i need voices (unless it's ok that the people don't have voices) If somone could offer help in that area, i would be really gratefull. Voice actors are my last priority i'm looking for maybe some sort of program that can make voices that don't sound robotic.

Please reply with suggestions

Nothing eh? well for anyone who may also be looking for voices, I recommend http://www.cepstral.com/ this is the best site I could find for human-like voices. It's good but can still easily be identified as computer-generated.

I find actual voice-acting can be much more jarring than silence, depending on how it's used. Either way, as far as I know voice-acting is generally considered nothing more than a nifty addon. I definitely wouldn't use computer-generated ones over silence.

Sounds reasonable, but since that is just your oppinion, I have created a poll I will base my decision on the number of votes if people do want voices, I will use the best program I can find for voice generation. If not, get used to people staring at you and transmiting their words telepathically. lol

It all depends on the voice acting. If you're going to do voice acting, then do it good. A good example of good voice acting is "Blood and Mud." Then there's the mods that have voice acting, but the quality of the voice acting is somewhat to be desired, and those mods should have just gone without it.

Me personally, I could go either way.

I see we're getting some results from the poll. Most of you say you DO want voice acting even if it is done by machine. I'll be monitoring the poll for the next couple of days to see if anyone else has an oppinion. :thanks:

I checked out the voice actor. He's ok from what I can see I could put on some good voices like that if I wanted to but still I don't because it sounds too...fake...However, I would like to say that his khajit voice acting was rather superb. Granted that he is probably the best I can get if I need an actor. Like I said in my first post though, voice actors are my lowest priority I don't want to have to bother people and make them record voices for me I'm looking for something that can emulate character voices on oblivion.

Although it seems I may have to look up some voice actors if I can't find a good emulator so I'll be sure to contact tyreil or ibsensghost should the need arise.
