lykanthrus
Hi. I could only find one ref to this problem and no solution so here goes. 1: For some reason the Jarl of white run names me thane and gives me lidya as a house carl even before i bought the house. Whether i buy the house before or not Lidya is no where to be found , that includes being beside the main doors to dragonsreach, or sitting on a chair in the bedroom of breezehome. 2: For some reason i can't start the greybeards training quests, Only one (Arngeir) greybeard comes to see me and i do get as far as the burning on the floor dragon word for RO. However that is as far as i can get since there are no other greybeards around and i did go and find the appropriate GB and nothing happens. I've re-installed skyrim several time in the past on the same computer and this never happened before. I have now tried 6 complete re-installs and the bug still remains. I have tried several patches with no luck. On a couple of the recent re-installs i tried making my character but once i got to the end and press R to name character i get a " are you sure?" but then the mouse buttons or the keys no longer work and i cant' even exit the game without a ctrl-atl-del. I cleared everything out and re-installed again and it started working for the character generation. Considering that i have replayed the game several times i can't see why this greybeards bug won't go away. Steam doesn't help at all and actually causes major problems. So i try to avoid it. I did try enabling/disabling the AI but that didn't help. While i can setstage mq150 to 140 it doesn't fix the bug and it just gets worse with the blades part of the main quest. Any ideas? I have the latest java, and dotnet as well. Ati graphics hd and using the enb series 0.88 graphics driver patch.my computer drivers including chipset drvs are all up to date.disabled the AV durring install and play.disconnected the internet while installing & playing.ran install & play as admin as well as compatibility modes of windows xp SP2, & 3, as well as vista. lykanthrus
Managed to get Skyrim working... of sorts. I still ended up with the Esbern missing voice bug but i found a patch, and Lydia is still a little skittish. The usual ATI HD video bugs came about but that's easily fixed. From what i can tell when Skyrim has the missing greybeards, lydia, e.t.c. It has to do with skyrim requiring some sort of software programing in windows. However as to which software it's missing is unknown. I did take note of creation kit requiring a steam DLL file but when i re-installed skyrim over the original. The creation kit accepted the old d3d non-steam file. Which means the INI files were not updated. After all the time with Skyim and some cases with Oblivion i have come to at least one conclusion. Most of the skyrim problems are caused by Windows file & access protection whether windows 7, Vista or XP and no matter even if you deactivate the user access control. Skyrim for PC does not bug if you install in LINUX with W-I-N-E. Nor does Skyrim bug if you create a virtual system with something like VMware and windows XP. At the moment i have switch window 7 ultimate 64bit (from 32 bit) which is running Skyrim in a separate run32dll 32bit memory space which is helping the access and speed. I am also running Skyrim in compatibility mode windows XP & run as admin. One other bug before i went into win XP mode was the fact that when i started Skyrim it would not save my keyboard controls and i had to re-enter my controls every time even if it said that it saved the changes. All other settings did properly save. You might want to install the latest Quicktime video software as it seems to fix (on occasion) the missing greybeards bug. I think some of the bugs have to do with the K-lite code packs version of quicktime. I hope this helps a little.
