chivs688
So I've been holding off from Skyrim for a while and now that all the great mod are coming in etc. I think I'm ready to jump in. Now for me I just love exploring the world and doing non-story/quest related things most of the time, just out doing my own thing. So one thing that I love in open world games such as this is hunting. Now I know the game does have a hunting part to it, but I was wondering just how good this is? Ideally in my mind I would be sneaking through the wilderness for a while until I finally spot an animal, then have to sneak up quietly and take it out with a bow and arrow. That sort of thing. So is this what the hunting experience is like in Skyrim? Are there any specific mods that cover this exact sort of thing? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks. For roleplaying I think the vanilla Skyrim falls short in the hunting aspect. However, there are some mods that focus on improving the experience of roleplaying a wild hunter. I would recommend you to install mods that make the forests and such wild habitats denser and lush ("lush grass", "lush trees", "glorious grasses", "SkyEarth", etc.) in order to make the hunting environment more vivid and to add a spice of challenge for the hunter (it becomes really immersive when you have to look for the pray instead of just spotting it from 500ft away). And there is one mod that I know of that tweaks the hunting part of the game; it increases the cost of animal loot making the hunts more rewarding amongst other things. Below I'll post some links to the mentioned mods....but be assured, I'm only doing this because I'm in a good mood and my girlfriend is happy which in return makes me happy as well  . They're isolated and relatively easy to find if you look hard enough. Here is one of my favorite ones:Narquelion: Antique Elven Bow And finally... there are some mods that allow you to craft hunting traps, which personally is quite swell if I may say so myself in a juvenile expressed manner :turned:. Hunter TrapsDeployable Traps First one is the more realistic one in my opinion; the second one lets you carry 100kg boulders in your inventory and then drop them to kill your enemy... That would be it mate, have fun... and, don't forget to read the information the mods' pages. Enjoy mate! Edited June 23, 2012 by Guest
gulogulo
If you want to play as a real hunter that tracks its prey and sniffs the wind consider trying my mod Nature of the Beast. Just wait a week for an update that will dramatically improve performance. Sorry for self-advertisment, but I think my mod should interest you. Also definatelly try this: SkyTEST - Realistic Animals and Predators Good hunting!

fraquar
I use a lot of the landscape mods to make seeing through the brush/trees harder. Even when I go up on a perch to scout a wide area I still have to look close to see the prey. Be careful with adding mods like SkyTest Realistic Animals and Predators and Real Wildlife, because while more numbers and more aggressive predators are a good thing (packs of wolves instead of solitary ones), it means you have more game prey for them to hunt - and it's the latter that will cause your game to look like this at ground level: Whole herds of deer bumping into you - literally. If I had a nickel for every buck that got within 2" of my whiskers I'd be rich.Goats out the ying-yang running up to you and around you.Wolves and Sabre Cats not just killing for a meal, but slaughtering their entire food chain (and likely any game you may be hunting) in one fell swoop - not stopping till every deer, horker or goat is wiped out in their immediate territory. It can ruin the entire hunting experience if you aren't careful. I choose to hunt from elevated perches because of that.
fraquar
That Hunting in Skyrim mod looks way OP for "hunting".
kingchris20
I 100% support and suggest Frankdema's "Nordic hunter light armor" mod! Great work on that Frank! Also, I do run Real Wildlife and would have to agree that it makes it "too easy" with the sheer number of animals, but I also like it because it brings the world to life, so it's give and take on that one, plus it adds more things to what an animal drops.... Like bones, lung, heart, eyes, etc so you can use in smithing and alchemy
