Trying to select female nord crashes game

This probably isn't enough info to go on, but does anyone know why or has anyone experienced this...

 

When I go to the character selection screen at the beginning of the game, if I try to select a female Nord my game crashes. I have 122 plugins currently so I'm not all to thrilled about going through and seeing which one it is, so I was wanting to know if anyone has experienced this and which mod may have caused it.......or even suggestions on what type of mod might cause this... Would be a helpful start to my "investigation" to narrow it down

 

Other female selections seem to work fine, as far as I know it's limited to the Nord race.

 

I realize for people to help my specific case a full list of my mods would be needed, but if someone has already had this problem, maybe we can bypass that (I'm writing this from my phone). If noone has had this problem, I'll bite the bullet and go through each mod individually and post the results here for future reference to others that may run across a problem like this....

 

So basically just a quick - has anyone had this problem and figured out what was causing it.... or does anyone know what type of mod(s) would create a problem such as this...

EDIT: Actually its only the beast races that remain unaffected, all the other races crash instantly when female is selected...

hmmm well it seems to involve Apachii hair and any mod that requires it :( :( I have gone through each one, and anytime I activate the Apachii esm, NPCRedesign esp, or BBLSapachii esp (all together or all individually) the game will crash as soon as I move the gender selector over to female on any human or elf race, argonians and khajiits remain unaffected.....

 

This is not good............ :wallbash:

 

However, one thing I did notice is that the Temptress race seems to keep the Apachii hairs even with Apachii.esm not selected (Temptress does not require Apachii according to NMM and Wyre Bash) and as another note, even when Temptressvixen.esp is de-selected the apachii mod and the ones that require it still crash the game as before, so I don't think Temptress has anything to do with it, its just weird that none of the other races retain the Apachii hair with the Apachii.esm deactivated.

 

as long as ApachiiHair.esm, NPC Redesign.esp, and BBLSapachii.esp are DE-selected, I can choose the female gender with no problems

 

EDIT: still on the hunt, I de-selected everything and ONLY selected ApachiiHair.esm and I could choose the female gender with it active..........some sort of conflict with another one of those 122 mods......oh joy

 

EDIT 2: ApachiiHair.esm + Extended Slider Colors.esp = Crash on female gender selection

 

EDIT 3: ApachiiHair.esm + Unique Region Names.esp + N_43 Hair Pack.esp = Crash on female gender selection (this one baffles me becasue the 3 have to be activated at the same time together for this to happen.....weird!)

 

Final EDIT: putting ApachiiHair and the Hair Pack together seems to make character selection of females unstable as I found that it definitely crashed with Unique Region Names added in the mix, but it also crashed when all other mods were selected (couldn't figure out the combo problem with that), but it seems that having those two together and a third of some sort (URN 100% of time) it makes it unstable. Also, after taking off only the Hair Pack and Extended Slider Colors, it was still a little unstable, I could choose female, but after a few slider changes here and there, the game would crash when I went to the menu 100% of time.

 

So be careful with (1) Apachii and Extended Slider Colors (100% crash on female selection), (2) Apachii, URN, and the Hair Pack (100% crash on female selection) and (3) Apachii, the Hair Pack, and some other mods (didn't find exact, but there was definitley still a conflict somewhere) (this one was a little buggy, as I could choose female, but sorting through other races with female selected eventually leaded to crash), and (4) Apachii with a S*** ton of other mods (because it did make the game unstable by crashing when trying to access the menu)

 

Lots of conflicts there, but after all that I found that simply de-selecting much of the unimportant mods just for the character selection portion is going to work. After character is selected I can re-enable all of them and play normally.....

Thanks so much for posting this, you probably saved me from some frustrated hours :)

 

I had the same problem with crashing at female char select and also millions of mods installed.

And indeed, both Hair Pack and ApachiiSkyHair too.

 

Disabled one, problem gone!

 

So if you have this too, pick your favorite hair from either one of those mods but disable the other one in mod manager.

I was having the same problem, I too had apachii hair and extended sliders. While it's not answer to the issue if starting a new game, opening race menu indoors seems to prevent crashes when apachii and extended sliders are installed. I just load a save at the end of the Helgen tutorial cave instead of starting new play through. I start from there since the cave is right near the leveler's tower location and go inside the tower and set up a new char. As for a REAL answer to this problem your guess is as good as mine. I hope this helps.

Just to let future people know, there is a fix for this (after looking at this thread I too found that it was Apachii hair that was crashing the game when selecting a female character, so I uninstalled Apachii and it what do you know, it worked! The problem lies in the way Skyrim loads everything at once when in character creation, and having too many mods causes it to overload.

I disabled ApachiiHair, but my game still crashes when I choose any of my human/elf race characters. :sad:

And the read.me file does not help at all. I can create a new character (of any race) and the game works fine. But when I try to load an old character, the game crashes almost instantly (I have 1 second to do anything). I do not know what to do anymore :'(

 

EDIT 1: Well, if my character is in 1st person, I can console command my way out(by showracemenu). But I saved most of my characters in 3rd person mode. They are basically screwed.

 

EDIT 2[probably last]: I somehow managed to load my characters, even if they were in 3rd person. I'm not sure, but it could have been thanks to this mod:

Pretty sure this issue has been around for ages and the go-to fix for it was this showracemenu PreCache killer (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/33526/?) which has recently been integrated into Racemenu if I'm not mistaken. Basically, like the others have said, too many modded stuff getting added just overloaded it. Although, kudos to the OP for sharing his findings to help others out ;)

Well, this only works if I create new characters. If I try to select an older save with the mod active, the game crashes. I downloaded the PreCache killer, but it doesn't work on my older characters.

Otherwise; the PreCache killer works fine if you are creating new characters. :)
