Texture Bug on Certain NPCs

I created a mod a few weeks ago called Attractive Spouses. The mod is really simple. It just changes the appearance of the NPCs in the Potential Spouse faction, but I have run into a problem. Some of the face textures I've added are not working for some of the NPCs. Brelyna Maryon in the College of Winterhold and Avrusa Sarethi at the Sarethi Farm both don't seem to have working textures, causing the dreaded Dark Face Bug and a very noticeable neck seam. This may also effect other NPCs but I haven't taken the time to test all of them yet.

In the CK, they both look fine. No neck seam, or anything, but in the game the lack of face textures is very noticeable. At first I assumed it had something to do with all Dark Elves (or at least the Dunmer females) but Jenassa in the Drunken Huntsman is perfectly fine. I have done all I can imagine to fix these NPCs. Even going so far as to redo the mod from scratch, and nothing seems to work. I am out of ideas. Can anyone help me out here?

Here is a link to the unfinished, redone version of the mod:

Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the link to the wiki page on how to fix this problem: Dark Face Bug.

I greatly dislike that page since you don't need to esmify your file, and it's not a bug.

Simply select your actors in the Actor tab and hit 'Control+F4' to generate the facial files; which then need to be included if you upload the mod anywhere.

Oblivion never had this issue. You could change faces all day long without making dark faces with skin that did not match the rest of the body. So I suppose a more accurate name would be "Bethesda's Skyrim mismatched face-color design flaw."

For certain applications you are required to esmify your file. I think maybe the pattern is that if you edit the face of a vanilla NPC, you don't need to esmify. If you create brand new NPCs, then you do need to esmify. I think it is something like that.

There is very little documentation on the issue, and you hear stories of ways to bypass this procedure by using default faces, and of NPC mods that include a permanent .esm along with the .esp. I think the issue is a bit more complicated than you take it to be.

I have never esmified my mod and never had problems of dark faces. I just CTRL + F4 and seems to work ingame (custom NPCs).

However, i haven't released it yet, so maybe i'll have to esmify to let users see the right face textures.
