can someone help me download the unofficial patch gor oblivion? I downloaded it and tried to open it with 7-Zip but get an error message

I have downloaded the unofficial patch but when i try to open it with 7-Zip it states the path cannot be found.

 

Should I just download the unofficial patch? I saw in the chat not to download the official patch. Which i have not done.

I have extracted the files but what do I need to do once I extract them?

The Main File is a simple mod with no options. Just copy&paste it into your Data folder 1:1, "merge" potentially existing folders when prompted to overwrite.

Simply make sure the ESPs and folders from inside the archive end up inside Data, not in any other subfolder inside Data or the like. It sometimes depends on the packaging tool, which folder structure the unpacked archive will have.

 

Or import the archive into the mod manager of your choice, according to said mod manager's usage instructions. It's fairly basic, so every manager should be able to understand its structure.

 

And as for whether you need the Official patch or not, this depends solely on the current version of your game. Any version lower than 1.2.0416 will inevitably lead to all plugins made in a newer version of the CS (1.2 is current, used for almost all plugins in existence now) being "silently ignored" by the pre-1.2 game. There will be no errors or warnings, it'll just be as if the plugins weren't even there.

 

As far as I know, the current distribution versions, like GotY etc., should already be patched up to the latest version. But it can't hurt to check regardless. The version number can be seen at the bottom of the main menu title screen.
