Making a mod dependent on a DLC plugin

Sorry if this has been covered, couldn't find any threads.

 

I'm trying to make my mod dependent on KotN as I am using some of the official meshes. I tried using Bash, but my mod didn't work right after making Knights a required master. Is there another way to do this?

 

Also, does it really avoid the legal/no stealing issues since people could still load my meshes into a new mod?
