cbuckgo
So, I started playing around with mods. And, like a kid in a candy store... I downloaded and deleted bunches. By doing this I ended up with a few "potions" in my inventory and I have no idea where they came from. One is called "Race Menu Potion," and another "Companion Race Menu Potion." I am assuming these potions are the product of some evil genius mod creator. But, no clue. Anyone have any idea how I came upon these gems? I have no idea. Not even close. OMG. I might have a problem. Thanks.
yuser
If you can drop these potions on the ground - drop one and select it in console. See the first two digits - it is a code of plugin in your load order. If you can't drop them then move anything you can from your inventory into some container. Then in console execute "player.inv" command and look for your potions and again see first two digits (you can scroll console output with PgUp/PgDn keys). But if potions are created dynamically then they will have codes starting with FF, so it can be complicated...

Moraelin
I would assume most items placed in your inventory by a script are likely to be created on the fly and start with FF. And if things spawn in your inventory, it's almost definitely a script. (The alternative being to change the player record, which is a recipe for conflicts. Most people don't do that.) What I would do is simply do a file search in your data directory for any .esp, .esm or .esl file containing those strings. Once you find that, you know which mod it is. I assume you can do that with Windows too, but I use Total Commander and ALT-F7 to search in directories. That said, it's actually quite common for modders to just put their config items directly into your inventory. Since they can't give you a spell for it. You don't have to be an evil genius for that. By now it's a time honoured tradition, in fact. I'm pretty sure I've first seen it as far back as Morrowind. Heck, at one point you'd even use to get weapons dumped in your inventory. Me, I like to be a git and make the player search for a container or craft their own juice to configure my stuff. You know, immersion and stuff. But other people like to make their stuff easy to find and use, and as you've noticed, finding stuff in your inventory happens even if you never read the docs.
