This is probably an extremely simple question, and I'm not sure which section it should be posted in. Anyways, how can I find files that have either been edited or added, within the creation kit? I know I can tell by seeing if an object has an asterisk next to it, but is there a way to make it filter so that it shows ONLY those objects which have the asterisks next to them?

Thank you.

In CK, select File->Data from the main menu. Click on the mod in the file list then click the Details button. A window pops up showing which references have been changes or added as well as which cells are affected. The annoying thing about this window is that double-clicking any of the entries does not do anything useful (such as opening the modified item's form):

  Reveal hidden contents

However, if you scroll this window to the right and look carefully at the column header between the "Editor ID" and "Offset" headers you will notice that there is a narrow almost hidden column header that at first glance looks simply like a divider:

  Reveal hidden contents

Expand this column header and you will see that it is the Form ID.

  Reveal hidden contents

Write down these IDs of any entries that interest you. Now close this window and from the main CK menu choose Edit->Find Text. Type in one of the Form ID's that you wrote down and search for it. Click the Objects tab and it will show any objects matching that Form ID:

  Reveal hidden contents

Now simply double-click on the found entry. Now it will either open that form, or if it is a reference, load it in the Render Window.:)

EDIT: added some screenshots.

There is a tool called tesvsnip here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5064

Its perfectly safe to use that app to browse for refs. It will at least group them by their type unlike the details dialog.

And thank you for this, I will give it a try. But I find the details dialog to suit me for now, but probably once my mods get bigger I'll need this. Thank you!

I would also recommend prefixing all your IDs you put in your mod with something like PTAM - Peter Tran Awesome Mod, or something like that. That way, you can put ptam or whatever prefix you have in the search filter, and only those things that you have added will pop up.

I didn't even know about that thing Steve40 said though, Ill have to check that out

Actually, if you click the "Type" column header in the CK "File Details" dialogue, it WILL sort the items by type :)

Edit: Tesvedit is now also available for reviewing changes that mods make.
