Atare-Malm

This is my attempt of fabricating a unique creature for Skyrim. I always thought the ore veins of Skyrim needed something to spice things up and thus, the Atare-Malm came to be in the Nexus Chat Room. Please comment about how it can be improved.

The Atare-Malm (singular: Atare) the bane of a many would-be miners, excavators and explorers all across Skyrim. These creatures rely on precious minerals and ores for sustenance and are highly protective of their claimed territory. Although quite deadly, many prospectors use Atare to find mineable ore deposits and rarely, dwarven ruins. Depending on what ore they eat, Atare vary in durability and tactics and the more valuable the ore, the more powerful the Atare. Atare who feed on ores used for heavy armor are considered ‘heavyweights’ while those who feed on ores used for light armors are called ‘lightweights’. Heavy Atare are slower than their lighter counterparts but are more durable as a result.

Rivaling Sabre Cats in size, a single Atare alone is enough to threaten an entire mining operation and sometimes, Atare-Malm live in pairs –doubling the threat. Atare use their razor-sharp teeth and claws in combat and have been use to use their weight and mass to push aside and crush their enemies. All Atare-Malm are quite resilient to an extent, some more than others, challenging the player's ability to fight an powerful enemy in a closed-environment. Players can occasionally loot ores from a slayed Atare, depending on what mineral they feed on.

So the Atare would only be placed at certain veins? New mines could also be created with the CK with dead workers inside to add to the notion that these are dangerous creatures.

Thank you for replying, MT. And yes, the Atare would be placed in certain ore veins. In mines being used by miners, the Atare would be already dead; every in-use cave that has ore was cleared out before they began mining. Dead Atare would be dragged out near the front, maybe in a wagon or something to prove that the mine is safe. Uncultivated mines, however, are free-game for Atare.

as i said in the chat, maybe they should have the texture of the ore that they consume. but not just plain black for ebony for example. and are you considering a brand new mesh?

By what do you mean? Their colors should be realistic. Nothing is just one color.

As always, I start with problems :) I don't think there are (m)any unattended mine ores. The only one I can think of from the top of my head is the gold mine far (north-ish) east of riften

Ore veins aren't restricted to mines. There are plenty veins in the wilderness.
