AltreU
Well I purchased a retail copy of the game after I got off work today, so now I question how to keep it from eating my bandwidth and am still curious about which installer program to use. I loved Wrye Bash. I started off using whatever the other one was because it had a lower learning curve, but I soon learned after getting over the hump that Wrye Bash was far more powerful. If NMM has more substantial tools (for merging, id editing, and whatnot) then I'll stick with it. It sounds like I should just try each. As far as keeping my interwebz safe, are the updates tied directly to Steam or is there a separate auto update program? As long as I can mod Skyrim like I did Oblivion, I'll be happy. I frequently read about what the updates alter on the uesp (even though I didn't have to PC version... living out in the middle of nowhere does that to ya), so if I can choose when it updates, that'd be acceptable. xlcr
@AltreU, your new laptop w/660m should kick Skyrim's butt congrads, you must be excited lol.fyi, here is a good enthusiast forum site for laptops that i like: http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/looks like some people are concerned about the GE60 getting a bit hot.. a laptop cooler might be something to consider. heed our words about securing your laptop against Steam updates lol, its your call.just keep steam/skyrim in offline mode like we said. be warned, there are numerous reports of Steam updating even if you set Steam NOT to update; and, after the updateSteam resets your profile to autoupdate lol.Bethesda's updates also have a tendency to break mods, this is not meant as a negative criticism of Bethesda, its just the way things are. i don't use NMM and install mods manually so i know what's going on; but, people like NMM, i have no opinion about it.you probably know more about wrye bash/python/bain than i do, you can find those and all the mods here:http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/index.phplooks like wrye bash works but the devs may have stepped away from skyrim at the moment. You'll probably want to look into getting Bethesda's Creation Kit for modding and Papyrus for scripting. AltreU
I'll have to be proactive in keeping the updates in line I guess. I'm well aware of the heating issues (which seems to be common in gaming laptops), so there are a few external fans I've been looking at in mind for purchase. Thanks for the help and happy gaming/modding everyone!
jesusismyairbag
I have the disk simply because it is far faster to install and reinstall if need be without having to wait a tenth of the time it takes Steam. I like the convenience of it better myself. It takes me hours to install through Steam and less than 20 minutes with the disk. I also have slow internet too so it may be faster for you than me with a Steam install. Just my personal preference. And it comes with a pretty map too. takes me 20-30 minutes tops to redownload and install from steam and 40-50 minutes on a wireless connection [if need be]. not too shabby if you ask me.
