Unable to get work at inns

Previous characters have been able to get bounty quests at inns. New character, breton mage level 14, does not get the option about finding work from innkeepers. No mods installed. Have patch 1.6 installed. In whiterun at the drunken huntsmans I do get an option to ask about work and her refers me to the bannered mare, but when I get there, no option for work.

 

Any ideas?

@Darylem, i guess you can try asking at other inns located elsewhere instead of Whiterun.

Skyrim radiant Bounty Quests are supposed to be unlimited but can be buggy, leave orphaned tasks in your journal, and are prone to break

due to the way Bethesda designed and haven't fixed the open explorable world leaving non-respawning quest items/npc's unprotected

when you unknowingly clear them which results in broken scripted quests.

 

Do you have any uncompleted 'radiant' quests in your journal?

this is not exactly user friendly; but, you can try using console command:

SQO ; this gives you an itemized list of currently active/completed quest objectives and status.

PgUp/PgDn to scroll thru the list, you'll see quest stages marked 'COMPLETED', 'DORMANT', or 'DISPLAYED'.

Look for any quest stage marked 'DISPLAYED'.

Sorry i can't tell you how to redirect this output to a text file because it seems the SCOF command is broken for Skyrim users.

 

If you find a stuck bounty quest with a 'displayed' status, i'm guessing you might be able to use

'resetquest' or 'setstage' commands to brute force fix the bounty quest scripting back into gear lol.

edit: okay, nvm, I think mine were from having unclaimed bounties with various stewards.

I have the same problem, kind of. I've started a new game, i'm level 20 and never done a bounty yet. There's no dialog in inn's or from stewards to do one, anywhere. is there a way to fix this?
