Hello Nexus.

Just passing on a comment i get a lot. Many users keep asking if i have alternative download links because they cannot use nexus due to a lack of a "resuming" feature on the download.

Usually they are 56k users but i like to support them too so i thought id pass the comment along.

As a long time dial upper, I have already asked Dark0ne about this, here is what he had to say about this feature [posted Aug 13]:

It's not possible unfortunately. The reason why download resumers don't tend to work is because non-premium downloads are fed through a PHP script. All files are stored behind the visible web directory to avoid direct file calls and the PHP script retrieves and feeds the file to the downloader from this safe location. This script is what limits the download speed as well as does all the security checks.

The premium download server now uses htaccess files to check for the premium cookie and places all files in directly accessible folders from the internet; but you can only download from these folders if you have the right premium cookie. As long as the download manager has cookie capabilities it will work. Unfortunately I can't do this for normal members as there would be no security checks or way of limiting the download speed.

That is not so bad, I can tell me users premium users can resume from here then.

Still perhaps in the future a dedicated capped download server might be of use for them. 5kps is the fastest a 56k user can download without serious file corruption on a zip file. So capping things at that speed would ensure only 56kers used that server.

Thanks for the info Buddah, I'll pass it on to my mod users when they ask.
