digital00
Hi guys, I am trying to add some arm chain mail to the dragon bone armor. I've messed around in nifskope and have got it to look how I want it (first picture), however in game the arms just display a darker skin color and not the chain mail texture I have set it (second picture). I've tried a few tutorials to fix it with no luck, so any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
frankdema
have you changed the normal maps? maybe that is the reason why the arms look flat...
digital00
Yep I checked over and did the normal map again, but still gives the same problem.
Perraine
You have to change the the "shader type" on the body/flesh NiTriShape from "5" to "1" ... 5 = tells the game to ignore any/all textures and display skin texture. 1 (or 0) = let's you specify and create your own textures. Thanks a lot that fixed it. Another problem thats come up is a lighting(?) issue where the arms go from visible/invisible as the camera rotates around. Also they can be seen through other parts of the armor.
Perraine
The visible/invisible when turning thing is, unfortunately, just a symptom of the very poor way that Skyrim displays meshes and does lighting, their is no way around it I'm afraid ... As for invisible/dark/black parts showing through in certain areas, this is generally caused by not having a full body mesh inside the armor, and/or 'clipping' of parts through each other ... Again, unfortunately, this is a symptom of the 18th century code that Bethesda uses in their so called 'new' game ... Most meshes in vanilla Skyrim that show skin only have the visible parts in the 'body' mesh, like arms, wrists, calves and neck, the rest has been deleted. You have to replace the partial 'body' mesh with a complete 'body' mesh in order for it to work properly and then use the "alpha" method to reduce clipping and to remove/hide unwanted parts of the body/mesh
digital00
Ah thats a shame. I'll try out changing the body mesh, and hopefully something will work. Thanks again for the help.
