mods causing glitch hell

ok, so 2 months ago I wanted to play new vegas again so I went through the mothions of cleaning out my data folder and downloading new/updated mods, installing them, load order adjustments, merged patch, and play, and the game would glitch horibly on me. so after fidling with it for a day I lost faith and gave up for a month.

 

recently I have decided to give it another go and after carefully installing mods (removing a few from the list, and running the game every few mods to make sure it runs smoothly, this process takes an entire day), the problem is that I'm still running in to the same glitch.

 

the actual glitch comes in the form of a functional breakdown of the game, I'm walking along, sing'n a song; when I start getting texture gitches on stuff that was working meer moments earlier, then meshes start dissapeering, always including the pipboy, and the esc key stops working so I can't quit the normal way, sounds stop as well, and I eighther have to ctrl-alt-delet to start task manager, or wait for the game to crash

 

now I'm no newb to mod usage ( been doing this since homeworld), I know about load orders, creating a merged patch, proper installing, and using fomm and boss, and I have no idea what the hell is going on that causes the world to end,

You need to reduce your plugin count. 140 ish is where people start having those issues.

 

Merge armor and simple mods with FNVPlugin to reduce your plugin count.

is that the merged patch feature in fnv edit, have I been useing that wrong? I thought you just select all your .esp's and creat a merged patch that you load at the bottom. (you know, I alwase had a feeling I was doing that wrong) please explain, need more info!!

 

ok, I did a steam file recovery earlier and now fnv edit cant open the registry key

 

edit: oh I see, fnv plugin is an acual utility, dling now, and trimming some eccess fat of the load order

Ok are you using 4gig patch. Also try the fake fullscreen from new vegas run at as administrator and click the last box (something about dpi, I cant remeber). I was getting the texture stuff to and it is due to not enough memory and a memory leak. So make sure u get 4gig patch and fake fullscreen and tell me what happens. Also I would recommend some load order fixes IE: WMX stuff should stick together, are you resorting them after boss? Edited by durbin

No, you're doing that fine. That's what you're meant to do with the feature, but it won't help at the moment (actually, adding the merged patch to your load order at the moment will only make the problem worse).

 

What you need to do is get a utility like FNVPlugin, and merge the mods themselves so you're loading less things, for instance merging all the plugins for single added items (armour, weapons etc) that don't affect much individually, saving it as WeaponsAndArmourMods.esp then loading that one WeaponsAndArmourMods.esp instead of the dozen or so different plugins you had before.

 

The problem is simply that the game engine can only handle so many individual plugins at once, merging them down makes dealing with them simpler for the game and means you can keep all your content without confusing the game and causing the texture/mesh issues.

ok first, yes I use the 4gb patch

 

but any way, I tested it by deactivating a few mods and it worked, no more glitching so thanks, gonna try out the fnvplugin once I figure it out

 

figures it would be something stupidly easy to fix, it always is..........

 

wait I thought the hard coded limit for the engine was 250 mods, what gives?

 

 

p.s. does any one know whats up with fnv edit by the way, it says it cant open the registry key?
