Problems with d3d9.dll

I'm not sure if this is the right section, but I don't know that this falls exclusively under the umbrella of modding.

This is a repost from a mod comment, since I'm not sure how much help I'll get there:

I'm having major performance issues due to d3d9.dll - not just for [sharpshooter ENB], but any mod that requires one...even performance boosters. If I have any instance of d3d9.dll in my install directory, it seems, the performance is cut in half at the very least. In the case of ENBs, my framerate drops to roughly 2 fps...at best.

Oddly enough, my install didn't come with any form of d3d9 originally. A lot of other people have said the same about their games, and many of them seem to have the same problem when they add d3d9. I know that its an extension file for DirectX - Do I need to update or something?

Does anyone have any idea what's causing this for me and other alike? Is there anything that can be done to rectify it? Until I can find a solution, I'm afraid that I won't be using [sharpshooter] or any other ENB mod. Its a shame; my game looks fairly good as is, but what I got to see through my slideshow framerates with [sharpshooter] blew my mind.

Please Help.

Try re-installing Directx9.

I have win 7 64-bit, and DX9 didn't have alll the dlls uptodate and was causing me problems with ENBs and SMAA.

You mean reinstall or update?
