Boots of the Jumper

Are you talking about those boots from Morrowind that let run across the entire map in like 3 minutes? There was a recent conversation here on Nexus where someone mentioned that boosting a stat beyond a certain point would not be recognized and would not function properly if at all.

You could always just try it and see what happens.

Very simple to make, yes. However, I tried doing this once. I wanted to jump really really far, like across Talos Bridge far. However, once you get to a certain "add skill" number, it does...strange things. I can't remember what I set it to, maybe like +5000 acrobatics or something, but you jump and, well, you don't come down. Ever. It is like you are immediately transported into the sky, and sky is all you can see in any direction. Needless to say, this is not desired. I don't know what would happen if you did that to athletics, though. Might have similar "break the game" effects...

You can go faster, and jump higher, it just requires changes to game settings which unfortunately affect other things. Movement speed is controlled by three parts, a base speed, athletics skill, and speed stat, the bad part is that it is a bit difficult to find a good combination of settings. If you turn up one too high NPCs are zooming around faster than you can keep track. Jump height is based on two things, the applied bonus from acrobatics, and gravity... Meaning that if you want to be able to land without dying, you'll likely be screwing up some other aspect.

Additionally, being able to move super fast is not such a good thing with Oblivion since the game often has a hard time processing areas as they show up. This means that you can occasionally find yourself moving through one collision surface but not the other side of the object, so every rock, building, and tree can pose a potential hazard.
