Dukoth
OK, I seem to have run into a weird problem with FO4, I've been installing a crap load of mods using a combination of merging and converting to .esl, with about 253 .esl files and 225 .esp/.esm files totaling 478 plugins so far, but now FO4 seems to crash when it loads the main menui've been trouble shooting this problem for the last few hours and through my efforts the problem seems to lie with the number of plugins I have, when I disable any 10-ish mods the game can load just fine, and it doesnt matter wich mods or if it's .esp or .eslbut I haven hit the .esp plugin limit and from what I understand the minimum number of .esl plugins you can have is 300, so I cant be hitting those limitsis there another plugin limit I'm unaware of? ForcefulMocha
I'm no expert, but maybe it's just the game not being able to handle it? I assume there's a certain point where the game just can't hold up. Especially depending on what the size of all those mods are.
Dukoth
that's kind of my thinking too, but if that's the case I would really like to know what the limiting factor is here in case there is a way to fix it or work around it, or at least so I can be aware of it i mean, why say that the .esl files can go up to 4000 plugins if you cant actually even reach the minimum
Acacophony
That sounds more like your load order is unstable. Have you tried the normal tedius troubleshooting steps?Start disabling things, and launching a test, one mod at a time, until your issue is resolved. Then write down the name of the problem mod. Start enabling the OTHER mods you disabled one at a time and testing between each one to see if it returns. Also, if you're working at this level you probably don't need me to tell you to be really careful with merging mods. Really complex mods like Horizon, Frost, More Smarter Companions, etc that have large changes or intense overhauls shouldn't be combined with other things. Dukoth
first, yes I keep the merges simple, I stick to merging simple mods like weapon mods and avoid merging big complex mods, or mods that act as dependencies for others second, yeah, i started by back tracking the mods I installed when the problem started, switching them back to .esp, reinstalling them, and after a bit of this on a hunch i disabled a random set of mods leaving the ones that SHOULD have been the cause of the problem activated but the game loaded fine, witch leads me to believe that the problem is the number of active plugins and not a conflict issue the thing is, i can get the game to load even by disabling a number of .esl plugins, but since those get crammed into a single .esp plugin on load then the number of active .esl shouldn't have any affect at all, and that tells me that it's not the NUMBER of plugins specifically but something related to it so my thinking is it's some sort of resource barrier I'm hitting when the game loads the menu, but the weird thing is my system is not being maxed out in any way, so it's got to be an issue with fallout but that's the extent of my skills, and I've never heard of a limitation like this before, hence why I'm asking here
